Things had changed so rapidly in the past few days.

The loss of two of them hung over like a shroud, made even worse by the fact that an innocent person had been executed.

Was this....how the rest of the game was going to go...?🗈

....Even if it was, there wasn't much they could do now. Yuuko herself hasn't shown up in public since the trial, and while some have talked to her, she's been...subdued.

Did the trial hurt her just as much as them?

Regardless, the island is still beautiful, if deadly. Summer continues, beaming down on all of them, the waves of the sea warm and inviting.

But even if things look bleak...

They have something in their hands that will soon lead to the Truth, and the heart of this matter.

And in the air...lies a heavy sense that everything is about to change.

[Shadow startles a little when Ruler's door opens. But then he seems relieved]

A prank? What kind of prank screams like that? If someone doesn't kill me for a wish, I'm gonna die of a heart attack.

[He steps back, letting Shadow come into his room if he so wants, going over to a wooden box on the floor, scooping it up to show it, thumbs pressed so the lid stays closed]

I found this yesterday, but put off opening it until a few minutes ago - which is when it screamed.

Yes, actually. I got a flute made of ivory. If you try and play it, you are overcome with guilt about dead elephants.

[he shrugs, rolling his eyes a bit]

Completely pointless.

[Shadow does come in, and inspects the box. He peeks underneath, looking for some sort of battery slot or mechanism]

I'm so happy our illustrious hosts think giving us useless, weird garbage is fun.

...Dead elephants - that's extremely specific. Though - I think I might have a use for this screaming box, probably not what our gifter was expecting.

Perhaps the ivory the flute is made of is of elephant origin? Which is... dumb. You don't need to kill an elephant to take the ivory. [though, given the size of elephants, that might be easiest....]

What do you plan to do with it?

Unfortunately, humans have a terrible habit of killing the entire animal just to get a small part of it in a blind hubris that nature is just there for them to conquer and abuse...

[His expression seems regretful?]

Though I hope the box didn't have such grisly origins as well. Given it can be heard outside the room, if we need to keep something secured... so if someone where to try to take it.
