FINAL TRIAL

TRIAL

After a very, very long six weeks, it has finally come. The last time everyone will need to trudge up those stairs and meet in the master suite. It's do or die time, and hopefully everyone knows what needs to be done by now.

As soon as the guests walk into the room, they will be able to smell the food that the chef has provided: duck l'orange, served up on a nice platter. Eat up everyone!

There are a few unexpected guests this time. A large group of the rats is here, and they show up in a swarm as they carry Gabe into the room, much like how they had carted him off to the Child Daycare last night. Once he is deposited in the room, Gabe will also stand up and remain there, crossing his arm and looking a bit standoffish.

They're not the only unexpected faces around here, though...

[Thank you for reminding me that he still hasn't asked her to just call him by his first name. Like damn. Speaking to him must be a workout.

Anyways, Rean returns her smile with one of his own, soft but with a little more light in his eyes compared to before.]

It's good to be back. And thanks for all of your hard work this whole time. Really showed that you're as good with your words as you are with your cards.

[On the eternally bright side, if she ever decides to learn German she's already been doing the heavy lifting here.

There's something in her that relaxes just a little at his expression, the ways in which she can and can't see the Jorogumo now that it's no longer wearing his face, the ways in which different tiers of memories linger. It's the little differences that matter. It's enough for her to let out a brief laugh at his words, clear and bell-like.]

I feel like I really haven't been working very hard with my cards lately at all.

[It's something else she's going to have to fix, now that they've fixed the impossible.]

But thank you, too. For everything. It's finally over.

Well, there's plenty of time to make up for it.

[Or not. As nice as it would be to imagine that they have a break waiting for them, there are still things to be done. Even putting aside the small mountain of paperwork that would need to be completed for this incident, there's the path ahead to consider.

He shakes his head, and maybe it's not entirely clear which part he's disagreeing with, but.]

Well, this mission is, anyways. But... I don't think we can say it's over until we deal with the real problem.
