Intro log: Welcome to The Resort!

INTRO LOG

Before you even open your eyes, you can tell something is not right. It's cold. Not quite unbearably so, but cold enough that you can take notice of it. And as soon as you open your eyes, you will be able to see why it's so cold: you're in the middle of a snowy forest, with only a single two-lane road cutting through the thick trees.

Unfortunately, you seem to be without transportation. Fortunately, you are wearing warm clothes and snow gear, so freezing isn't an immediate problem. But without transportation, you're in for a long walk ahead of you.

There are others around as well. Other people, just as lost and confused as you are. Everyone seems to be lacking any memory that might explain why everyone is here. As far as anyone knows, all of you were just ripped out of your previous lives and dumped here on this snowy road, wearing snow gear and having any items that are important to you already on hand. And for some of you, you even have a new power, one that you somehow instantly know how to use...

Two ways to go: forward and back. Despite having no indication of which way is the 'right' way, you feel drawn towards one direction in particular. Going 'back' is possible, but you get the feeling that you will be even more lost if you try. And given that you have no food or water on you, it's best to keep moving forward.

So, are you ready to walk? Because you have a long road ahead of you.

((Welcome to The Resort! Your characters will have any objects or animals with them that they should have given their canon point, but are dressed in cold weather clothing.

This prompt is just the first part of the intro log. New top-levels will go up over the course of the weekend as everyone progresses from 'where the hell am I?' to the resort proper, and to getting settled in. For now, just start with this prompt. We'll link further updates here for easy access.))

That's kind of like big bro Mikado!

He's the one who created the Master Program, and he maintains it all by himself. Says he doesn't like others touching it.
latebluemer: (えっ)

[personal profile] latebluemer 2018-11-28 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
I don’t think anyone could maintain Link VRAINS alone. Your brother sounds pretty amazing, too.
justonezero: (I adore it even more...)

[personal profile] justonezero 2018-11-28 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
He's incredible! There's no comparison between a real genius like him and good for nothing garbage like me!
latebluemer: (フィップスター)

[personal profile] latebluemer 2018-11-28 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
[You get karate-chopped on a body part of your choice for that one, young man. This is going to become a reflex at some point.]

I don’t think your brother would be happy with that comparison.

[She and Akira might be somewhat dysfunctional, but they’re definitely more functional than that.]

What’s the Master Program, anyway?
justonezero: (care about me)

[personal profile] justonezero 2018-11-28 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
My arm!

[He doesn't sound all that pained.]

The Master Program is a program they implemented about four months ago to store everyone's ID and information. Before that, there were all kinds of cases where IDs would get lost, but since then, not a one. Everyone connects to it through their BitPhone!
latebluemer: (えっ)

[personal profile] latebluemer 2018-11-28 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
[She didn’t chop all that hard. Consider it more of a reminder than anything else. Eventually they’re going to have to do something about this slapstick dynamic.......]

... It sounds like he really changed society. And there aren’t any security issues? Hacking, or viruses, or...?

[That’s always the rub when it comes to centralizing and digitizing information, isn’t it?]
justonezero: (Even so)

[personal profile] justonezero 2018-11-28 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Nope! The Master Program is ridiculously complicated. He came up with everything from scratch.

I've peeked at it a couple times myself, and I wouldn't even know where to start!
latebluemer: (いいでしょう)

[personal profile] latebluemer 2018-11-28 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, it’s like a movie. One genius programmer against a whole army of hackers, or rogue AI, or whatever.

[It reminds her of the stupid AI army SOL Tech tried recently. It’s funny, but human ingenuity still definitely outstrips most AI.

It’s a little comforting, in the midst of everything else.]

Pretty much! They say it's about 99% secure.

[About as secure as can be while still accounting for the possibility of unexpected error.]

My big bro's amazing, though. There's no way anyone'll get past him!
latebluemer: (えっ)

[personal profile] latebluemer 2018-11-28 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, I know some people who've made it their life's work to slip past in that 1%.

[Ghost Girl and her brother and maybe even Playmaker or the Knights of Hanoi would probably like to have a crack at it. It's maybe a good thing that most of them are focused on Link VRAINS. A good thing for the rest of the world, anyway.

Then again, Link VRAINS is the more important thing to her, too.]

But I hope your brother keeps it up! So if you two are both programmers, you must have made other things, right?
justonezero: (Even so)

[personal profile] justonezero 2018-11-29 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
A few! I made an app called Mutter a while back. It was originally just so I could keep in touch with Mikado and my parents, but everyone started using it, too. It lets you make groups to chat in.
latebluemer: (いいでしょう)

[personal profile] latebluemer 2018-11-29 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
You made an entire messaging app... I guess your aesthetic is pretty good, and that's important for those kinds of apps too.

[Come to think of it...]

How would you rate this place's apps, anyway?

[They're pretty useful for the very limited functions they have, but hm.]
justonezero: (Do I come to love)

[personal profile] justonezero 2018-11-29 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
They're functional? I mean, I can't really complain! They just do what they're supposed to.

[Which just happens to be very little.]
latebluemer: (えっ)

[personal profile] latebluemer 2018-11-29 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It's pretty retro to give us an entire tablet just so we can look at pictures of each other.

[She sounds bemused about it. She's never had something with such limited functionality to the point where if you put it in a booklet it would have almost the same effect. Old-school as hell.]
justonezero: (I'm not there)

[personal profile] justonezero 2018-11-30 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
It looks like I can use my BitPhone to connect to the network anyway, so I haven't used it too much...
latebluemer: (えっ)

[personal profile] latebluemer 2018-11-30 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
That's pretty convenient... How does your BitPhone work, anyway? Holographic screens? Virtual interfaces? I wonder if they have better things for us to use somewhere...
justonezero: (secluded and)

[personal profile] justonezero 2018-12-01 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
They're holograms!

[He swipes a hand through the air and a screen pops up! Looks like it's the Mutter app, though it's devoid of any messages.]

When it's connected to the Master Program, there's a lot more you can do with it, but... right now all I have access to is the network they have here.
latebluemer: (バサッ)

[personal profile] latebluemer 2018-12-01 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh... that's a lot like my duel disk, and the duel AI. Their full functionality is only there when I'm dueling, or when I'm connected to Link VRAINS. I can probably link up to the network here, but there's still no one else using the program...

[Lonely virtual terminals...!]
