INTRO LOG

Before you even open your eyes, you can tell something is not right. It's cold. Not quite unbearably so, but cold enough that you can take notice of it. And as soon as you open your eyes, you will be able to see why it's so cold: you're in the middle of a snowy forest, with only a single two-lane road cutting through the thick trees.

Unfortunately, you seem to be without transportation. Fortunately, you are wearing warm clothes and snow gear, so freezing isn't an immediate problem. But without transportation, you're in for a long walk ahead of you.

There are others around as well. Other people, just as lost and confused as you are. Everyone seems to be lacking any memory that might explain why everyone is here. As far as anyone knows, all of you were just ripped out of your previous lives and dumped here on this snowy road, wearing snow gear and having any items that are important to you already on hand. And for some of you, you even have a new power, one that you somehow instantly know how to use...

Two ways to go: forward and back. Despite having no indication of which way is the 'right' way, you feel drawn towards one direction in particular. Going 'back' is possible, but you get the feeling that you will be even more lost if you try. And given that you have no food or water on you, it's best to keep moving forward.

So, are you ready to walk? Because you have a long road ahead of you.

((Welcome to The Resort! Your characters will have any objects or animals with them that they should have given their canon point, but are dressed in cold weather clothing.

This prompt is just the first part of the intro log. New top-levels will go up over the course of the weekend as everyone progresses from 'where the hell am I?' to the resort proper, and to getting settled in. For now, just start with this prompt. We'll link further updates here for easy access.))

...an oil monster?

[Excuse me?]

It was something invisible that only showed up as a patch of oil in the water. And then the staff woke it up and it... walked away.

[Yep.]

Oh, and it didn't catch on fire.

[Well there’s probably some kind of reasonable explanation for this.]

Someone was wearing stealth technology and covered themselves in lubricant.

[Nailed it.]

Wait...you tried to set it on fire?

[Uh.]

Why would anyone even do that? It just makes them visible because of the oil.

[She shakes her head in exasperation.]

I'm not the one who threw fire at it, okay? It just happened because some people here hit first and ask questions later. But the oil was weird, too. It disappeared after a little while.

Yeah, you could see oil handprints appearing because something invisible was moving? And then they just... vanished. That's not how oil works.

[Just in general, it's not how oil works. There's a little exasperated headshake.]

It was Cinque. I don't really get it, but she throws fire with her bare hands? Do you call that magic?

[She wouldn't think twice about it. Normally. Normally Blue Angel is not anywhere near reality. Jeez.]

[Nanomachines.]

Sounds like it shouldn't be in the hands of someone so impulsive.

What would you call it...?

[I mean, that is definitely not what nanomachines do in her world. They already have flamethrowers for that??]

Anyway, I've already yelled at her a bit about it, so hopefully she'll be more careful. We've really got enough to worry about.

[God, she sounds like her brother or her teacher or something. Terrible.]

Impressive technology.

[Imagine if the army got their hands on something like that...or terrorists.]

Good. We don't need this place burning down whilst we're still in it.

After we're out, then maybe.

I guess that would be more logical... I don't even know if we have technology like that yet, and we have some pretty good stuff.

[She's 100% civilian minus the hacker underground, she doesn't think of the other things!]

Hmm. Well, we can't just burn the place down. We don't have anyplace else to go.

[Apparently that's her priority and not the arson, all things considered.]

If they found a way to get us here, there's a way to get back, where ever we are.

[He's still got bets on a weird corner of Alaska, though he's doubtful there'll be a similar conveniently placed snowmobile as last time.]

I'd like to believe that.

[That's the ideal, that it's something that simple, but there have been so many supposed irregularities in time-space both with their fellow Guests and just with the here that she's honestly not sure anymore.]

Then you've got to.

[Otherwise it's as good as giving up.]

[She laughs a little. When it's not that simple, make it simple, huh? She's okay with that, for now.]

Well, we still shouldn't burn down the resort just yet. I'm still thawing out from the blizzard.

Wasn't planning on it. Only when we know how what's going on here in the first place.
