Intro log: Welcome to The Resort!

INTRO LOG

Before you even open your eyes, you can tell something is not right. It's cold. Not quite unbearably so, but cold enough that you can take notice of it. And as soon as you open your eyes, you will be able to see why it's so cold: you're in the middle of a snowy forest, with only a single two-lane road cutting through the thick trees.

Unfortunately, you seem to be without transportation. Fortunately, you are wearing warm clothes and snow gear, so freezing isn't an immediate problem. But without transportation, you're in for a long walk ahead of you.

There are others around as well. Other people, just as lost and confused as you are. Everyone seems to be lacking any memory that might explain why everyone is here. As far as anyone knows, all of you were just ripped out of your previous lives and dumped here on this snowy road, wearing snow gear and having any items that are important to you already on hand. And for some of you, you even have a new power, one that you somehow instantly know how to use...

Two ways to go: forward and back. Despite having no indication of which way is the 'right' way, you feel drawn towards one direction in particular. Going 'back' is possible, but you get the feeling that you will be even more lost if you try. And given that you have no food or water on you, it's best to keep moving forward.

So, are you ready to walk? Because you have a long road ahead of you.



((Welcome to The Resort! Your characters will have any objects or animals with them that they should have given their canon point, but are dressed in cold weather clothing.

This prompt is just the first part of the intro log. New top-levels will go up over the course of the weekend as everyone progresses from 'where the hell am I?' to the resort proper, and to getting settled in. For now, just start with this prompt. We'll link further updates here for easy access.))

[. . . and then this stranger relaxes, and Akira does as well. though he files what just occurred away in the back of his mind for much, much later]

[with one hand curled around his mouth, he cries out]

It's coffee! Not a bomb!

[Definitely not him, then. Similar appearance, different voice. Also this guy is just a bit too young.

Atsushi slowly brings the thermos down, holding it in front of himself as he inspects it.]

Ah. So it is.

[...wait.]

Why do you even have coffee right now?

[purrtagonist]

[Atsushi did you mistake him for Dazai]

It was in my bag.

[. . . that’s not much of an explanation, but it’s true]

[moonlightbeast]

[MAYBE...]

Why was it in your bag?

[purrtagonist]

I put it there.

[JAZZ HANDS]

[okay now he's being difficult on purpose]

[moonlightbeast]

[Of course he is.

Don't mind Atsushi, he's going to make this face and then just.

Drink all the coffee. Or try to drink as much as he can in one drink.]

[purrtagonist]

[GOOD. THAT WAS AKIRA'S GOAL]

[his expression never wavers]

How is it?

[moonlightbeast]

[He doesn't want to admit it was good, but.]

It tastes like you put coffee-shop-quality coffee in a to-go container.

[The unspoken question is why would somebody do that?]

[purrtagonist]

That's because it is quality-shop-quality coffee in a to-go container.

[he says blandly]

[he ain't answering that unspoken question]

[moonlightbeast]

Huh.

[sip sip siiiiiip

He'll cap the container and toss it back to Akira.]

Thank you for the coffee, it was very good.

[Okay, he has to be polite now that he's done with it.]

[purrtagonist]

[snatches the container easily out of the air, before tucking it into his bag]

Anytime. If we find some shelter with a coffee machine, I'll make you more.

[pppppauses]

Are you okay?

[you sure were tense earlier, buddy]

[moonlightbeast]

[He sure was.]

Ah, well. I guess I'm just a little guarded, sorry.

[Having things thrown at him tends to make him jumpy, it seems.]

It's nothing you did purposefully, though.

[Just don't ask him about that moment of shock and utter despair though. Plz don't.]

[purrtagonist]

I'd be surprised if someone here wasn't guarded.

[because despite how calm he seems? Akira's as wound as a spring, every muscle tense and ready to bolt at the first sign of active danger]

Provided everyone is like me, and woke up here with no memory of how we arrived in the first place.

[moonlightbeast]

I definitely don't remember being brought here. What's more, Akutagawa isn't here, and we were traveling together. For us to be separated like this is...

[Concerning.]

...strange.

[purrtagonist]

[Akutagawa. . . a friend of this guy's, then?]

It's-- actually really similar for me.

[he gives the bag on his shoulder a little shake]

I was traveling with some friends, too. To go from the sunny ocean to-- this is. . . [HM]

Well, you get the idea.

[you don't go from ocean to snow unless you travel a REALLY REALLY LONG WAYS AWAY]

[moonlightbeast]

['Friend' is really pushing it, but.]

It was fall for us. We had just left Yokohama to go look for his sister after-

[All of that.

Suddenly he's thinking of a certain someone again, and a touch of sadness drifts into his expression.]

-some things happened, and she disappeared. I did tell him I would help look for her, he might not be too happy about me being here instead of with him.

[purrtagonist]

[he notices that touch of sadness, and files that one away for later, too. this guy. . . he's definitely hiding some things. and while Akira won't pry, he sure will offer another cup of coffee and a listening ear, if needed]

[especially considering their recent kidnapping]

It's not your fault you're here. Something snatched everyone up and knocked us out long enough to bring us. . .

[god. where are they?]

[he flaps his hand at their surroundings wildly, as though indicating everything]

[moonlightbeast]

[He's hiding a lot of things, and talking it out over coffee won't fix it all, but it might help a little.]

That's true. If Akutagawa gives me trouble about it, I'll just punch him a few times until he understands!

[He says that entirely too cheerfully.]

[purrtagonist]

[Confidants take time and patience! Akira knows how the song and dance works. he has a whole bag full of confidant gifts, after all]

. . . is he the type who responds well to punching?

[moonlightbeast]

[Pro-tip: food is a good confidant gift for this one.]

It can take a little force to get through his thick skull sometimes. But even that doesn't always work. I haven't gotten him to use my actual name yet, for one.

[purrtagonist]

[good thing Akira has mastered curry]

Ah. . . what does he call you, then?

[moonlightbeast]

[Curry will earn Akira much favor.]

Something stupid that shouldn't be repeated. I would rather be called 'Atsushi Nakajima'.

[with amusement]

Nakajima-san, or just Atsushi?

Aaaah, Atsushi is fine. Most people call me 'Atsushi-kun' anyway. Akutagawa is the only one who ever uses 'Jinko'.
