INTRO LOG

Before you even open your eyes, you can tell something is not right. It's cold. Not quite unbearably so, but cold enough that you can take notice of it. And as soon as you open your eyes, you will be able to see why it's so cold: you're in the middle of a snowy forest, with only a single two-lane road cutting through the thick trees.

Unfortunately, you seem to be without transportation. Fortunately, you are wearing warm clothes and snow gear, so freezing isn't an immediate problem. But without transportation, you're in for a long walk ahead of you.

There are others around as well. Other people, just as lost and confused as you are. Everyone seems to be lacking any memory that might explain why everyone is here. As far as anyone knows, all of you were just ripped out of your previous lives and dumped here on this snowy road, wearing snow gear and having any items that are important to you already on hand. And for some of you, you even have a new power, one that you somehow instantly know how to use...

Two ways to go: forward and back. Despite having no indication of which way is the 'right' way, you feel drawn towards one direction in particular. Going 'back' is possible, but you get the feeling that you will be even more lost if you try. And given that you have no food or water on you, it's best to keep moving forward.

So, are you ready to walk? Because you have a long road ahead of you.

((Welcome to The Resort! Your characters will have any objects or animals with them that they should have given their canon point, but are dressed in cold weather clothing.

This prompt is just the first part of the intro log. New top-levels will go up over the course of the weekend as everyone progresses from 'where the hell am I?' to the resort proper, and to getting settled in. For now, just start with this prompt. We'll link further updates here for easy access.))

Is it a boat when you're suddenly out in the middle of the snow?

[This is????? A lot????????]

[He exercises his lungs just fine...! It happens plenty enough when he's fighting!!]

Haha... alright. Maybe it's more like a ship, then. [He takes a glance around.] But it could get even bigger than that if we don't get moving soon. I don't really want to find out how cold it gets when the sun sets.

[Nodding!]

That could be bad!

[But as he looks around, it's all so...

Wait. Huh? His eyes fix on something in the distance, though there won't appear to be anything there to Rean.]

[As the other boy's attention goes elsewhere, Rean follows his gaze to see... a whole lot of nothing? His eyesight is pretty good too, so he's not quite sure what he's missing but he's also long gotten used to people who could detect oddities in the surroundings.]

...Did you manage to find something?

Maybe...?

[He sounds so unsure. What is he even looking at, here?]

There's something weird about this place... It looks like the numbers keep repeating?

[The what.]

...Okay, you lost me already. Um, what numbers are we talking about?

[Not that Rean doubts him, but a little more context is always great?!]

[Right. Talking to people.]

I see the world as numbers. It can give me all kinds of data about the things around me. But... for some reason, the numbers in this area are just repeating?

Never seen anything like that before.

[Whoa. Okay, let's take this one step at a time.]

I've never heard of an ability like that, but... that sounds pretty amazing. What kind of information can you normally pick up, then?

Pretty much everything? I mean, there's some stuff that's too hard to convert in my head, but if I run the conversion app I can read people's thoughts and feelings, too.

Wait, really? That seems really useful, but... [He can definitely see where it can cross the line into being uncomfortable for people. Still... he shouldn't assume.]

Does that 'app' of yours work right now, then? You said you were seeing something strange, but is that because it's malfunctioning?

I haven't tried the conversion app on these yet. But I've never seen the numbers just form a repeating pattern before.

That part I can tell is weird even with just a glance.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there's something odd about this place. [Hm.] Do you think the app would work on it?

Don't see why it wouldn't! It'll take a little while to run, though.

I don't know we're in a big rush to figure it out yet, so it can probably wait until after we've found some shelter.

[Hmm. Although maybe he should ask?]

Huh, that's a lot faster than I was expecting. [Well, while they're waiting--] Is this app part of some sort of orbal computer or something?

I don't know what orbal is, but it's an app I designed for my BitPhone!

It's... well, actually, never mind. I've never heard of a BitPhone either, but it seems pretty versatile if you can put something like that on it.

[Actually, come to think of it... he hasn't seen Yoshi using any kind of machine with his hands, huh. ...Rean gives him a bit of a once over again.]

[Nope, no machine! The stuff on his (actual) ears looks mechanical, though.]

[He recognizes headsets and such but they don't have those for their (rudimentary) cell phones yet so. Mysterious!!]

Everyone's obligated to wear them these days. They're connected to the Master Program with all your info, so...

[excuse, that's his line?!]

Yeeeah, I'm pretty sure we're not from the same place, then. [Like there was any real doubt about that from the beginning, but this really drives it in.]

I don't know anything about a Master Program either, but it sounds [vaguely ominous??] impressive.

...But it's a worldwide system.

Well, it definitely didn't include the place I came from. I'm from Erebonia, but I've already ran into one person who doesn't know where that is, so we might be dealing with something a little bigger here.
