Intro log: Welcome to The Resort!

INTRO LOG

Before you even open your eyes, you can tell something is not right. It's cold. Not quite unbearably so, but cold enough that you can take notice of it. And as soon as you open your eyes, you will be able to see why it's so cold: you're in the middle of a snowy forest, with only a single two-lane road cutting through the thick trees.

Unfortunately, you seem to be without transportation. Fortunately, you are wearing warm clothes and snow gear, so freezing isn't an immediate problem. But without transportation, you're in for a long walk ahead of you.

There are others around as well. Other people, just as lost and confused as you are. Everyone seems to be lacking any memory that might explain why everyone is here. As far as anyone knows, all of you were just ripped out of your previous lives and dumped here on this snowy road, wearing snow gear and having any items that are important to you already on hand. And for some of you, you even have a new power, one that you somehow instantly know how to use...

Two ways to go: forward and back. Despite having no indication of which way is the 'right' way, you feel drawn towards one direction in particular. Going 'back' is possible, but you get the feeling that you will be even more lost if you try. And given that you have no food or water on you, it's best to keep moving forward.

So, are you ready to walk? Because you have a long road ahead of you.

((Welcome to The Resort! Your characters will have any objects or animals with them that they should have given their canon point, but are dressed in cold weather clothing.

This prompt is just the first part of the intro log. New top-levels will go up over the course of the weekend as everyone progresses from 'where the hell am I?' to the resort proper, and to getting settled in. For now, just start with this prompt. We'll link further updates here for easy access.))

[Ripley has to pause for a moment to confirm that she heard him right.]

I'm sorry, what?
justonezero: (the town from)

It's like...

[How to explain it...]

I see the world in numbers. So usually it's something like, 581329817231... and on and on like that. But here it's more like 479047904790, over and over again.

Not sure what it means, though!

[...Huh. She did not expect that. But now a wary expression creeps up on her face as she takes a small step back.]

You're not an android, are you?
justonezero: (care about me)

[personal profile] justonezero 2018-11-24 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope! Against all odds, I'm just a no-good shut-in of a human being!

[And yet he sounds perfectly chipper describing himself as such.]

[sounds fake but ok]

Right, um. Well, what do the numbers mean, normally? We could probably try to extrapolate what the new numbers mean, from there.
justonezero: (I'm not there)

[personal profile] justonezero 2018-11-24 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The numbers mean everything.

[This is a bad explanation. Ummm...]

Like, I can see how tall you are and how much you weigh and stuff like that, and that conversion's easy. But there's other numbers that make up your thoughts and feelings, and if I converted those, I'd be able to read them.

The repeating numbers probably mean there's a quality to the area that... repeats? But they're too complicated for me to convert into solid data on the spot, so I can't say more than that right now.

[Wow, that's pretty weird! Ripley can't help but look slightly uncomfortable. She does doubt whether the "human" comment was genuine--after all, an AI can be programmed to deny that they're artificial.]

...Right. Let me know if you come up with something more useful. [She shakes her head and crosses her arms.] We need to focus on getting out of the snow--we'll have to find shelter or something, or else we'll freeze to death out here.

Even garbage like me would prefer not to freeze to death! [He says, cheerfully.] If we can find a place to stop with shelter, I can try running the numbers through an app on my BitPhone. That should give us the answer!
