INTRO LOG

Before you even open your eyes, you can tell something is not right. It's cold. Not quite unbearably so, but cold enough that you can take notice of it. And as soon as you open your eyes, you will be able to see why it's so cold: you're in the middle of a snowy forest, with only a single two-lane road cutting through the thick trees.

Unfortunately, you seem to be without transportation. Fortunately, you are wearing warm clothes and snow gear, so freezing isn't an immediate problem. But without transportation, you're in for a long walk ahead of you.

There are others around as well. Other people, just as lost and confused as you are. Everyone seems to be lacking any memory that might explain why everyone is here. As far as anyone knows, all of you were just ripped out of your previous lives and dumped here on this snowy road, wearing snow gear and having any items that are important to you already on hand. And for some of you, you even have a new power, one that you somehow instantly know how to use...

Two ways to go: forward and back. Despite having no indication of which way is the 'right' way, you feel drawn towards one direction in particular. Going 'back' is possible, but you get the feeling that you will be even more lost if you try. And given that you have no food or water on you, it's best to keep moving forward.

So, are you ready to walk? Because you have a long road ahead of you.

((Welcome to The Resort! Your characters will have any objects or animals with them that they should have given their canon point, but are dressed in cold weather clothing.

This prompt is just the first part of the intro log. New top-levels will go up over the course of the weekend as everyone progresses from 'where the hell am I?' to the resort proper, and to getting settled in. For now, just start with this prompt. We'll link further updates here for easy access.))

[Yeah, he's raising his hand again, even if she's already talking to him.]

Why do you need a brand? Are you an idol?

[She's just going to raise an eyebrow at him raising his hand.]

What are you doing? We're not in class.

[And she's not a teacher, god forbid. She's just here to file a complaint about hotel management?? Anyway, have sigh and a nod, though she doesn't seem put out by the additional questioning. When everything else has gone crazy it's almost comforting to fall back on her title, despite all the trouble it gives her.]

... But yes. That's what they call me. I'm a Charisma Duelist. We duel for the public and ourselves.

[More one than the other, for a lot of them, but it results in the same thing, doesn't it?]

Charisma = good with words

Charisma Dueling = ...fight...with words?]

Is that like a debate club?

[For a moment she just... she just stares, because try as she might she has no idea how this guy got from Point A to Point 562, but eventually she just has to laugh?? Like, how did they get here? She's shaking her head even as she tries to answer.]

I don't... I don't even know where that came from, but I guess you're not someone who knows about Link VRAINS. At all. Amazing.

[As surprising as it is to find people who know nothing about the commonplace terms and famous virtual spaces that permeate her everyday life (maybe he's one of those people who hates electronics or lives on a farm??), she does take some time to explain:]

... A Charisma Duelist is a famous duelist in the virtual reality Link VRAINS. We duel using duel monster cards. It's, oh, only one of the most well-known virtual spaces in the world today.

[Wow, way to make him feel insignificant.

It actually does make him feel self-conscious, because he's really not up-to-date on 'fun stuff'. He vaguely knows what 'virtual reality' is thanks to commercials and such, but he's never used it. And even then, the vr of his world is like. 3-d video games that still require controllers.

But he won't say that. Instead, he comes up with a different excuse.]

Aaah, sorry! I never really had the chance to try virtual reality before. My orphanage couldn't really afford stuff like that.

[Look, in her corner of the universe it's a little like asking what Hollywood is or not knowing that Microsoft exists. Still, her expression softens immediately at his explanation because yeah -- that would be one reason why someone's not up with the times. Technology's developed pretty quickly in the last few years, but still.

Not everyone has the means to keep up, unless they're her brother, or unless they really do have some dough.]

Well, you don't have to apologize. I was just surprised, because most people would know a little bit about it from the commercials. They never end. [that's a little bit wry] I... have family who works in the industry, so I might know more than most.

[Which isn't bragging, in fact, but just an explanation of her own. Not quite an apology.]

It makes sense, someone with a connection like that would know more.

[And then, after a moment-]

Oh, right! My profile seemed to be accurate too, even if they spoke a bit too plainly about parts of it.

[Yep. His problem is only with how his profile was worded, not with the information in it.]

The profiles really don't mince words, do they? Still, someone from Yokohama who likes to eat... It's a little comforting just to know that there's other people here from Japan.

[She's still not sure what to make of everyone else, or the people who insist they're from places that sound straight out of fantasy maps and who don't even know what Japan is.]

Inaba-san is from Yokohama as well! So that makes at least three of us.

[He is pretty sure the older adults are American, though.]

Having two people from Yokohama is pretty impressive. I'm pretty sure there's no one else from Den City, so I guess that does make three of us.

And maybe more, a couple of the names I got earlier sounded Japanese.

Oh, that's true, if you look around at the profiles... There might be more of us.

[There's a moment of thought, because now that they're on the subject of locations, and geography, and the makeup of their little group...]

It's strange, though, isn't it? I don't think this is Japan at all.

[Like, aren't the signs in English. And the architectural styles and everything else...]

That's probably just a sign that we have been taken very far away from home, I think.

[He's never been to an English-speaking country before, though, so it's a little exciting! Kind of.]

[She really hasn't been overseas either -- her brother is the one who travels, and it's not like he's usually had leisure away from work to actually take her along or make it a vacation. Not yet. Maybe someday.

She wants that to be a thing, someday. This, though...]

I really never imagined I'd go overseas like this...
