Intro log: Welcome to The Resort!

INTRO LOG

Before you even open your eyes, you can tell something is not right. It's cold. Not quite unbearably so, but cold enough that you can take notice of it. And as soon as you open your eyes, you will be able to see why it's so cold: you're in the middle of a snowy forest, with only a single two-lane road cutting through the thick trees.

Unfortunately, you seem to be without transportation. Fortunately, you are wearing warm clothes and snow gear, so freezing isn't an immediate problem. But without transportation, you're in for a long walk ahead of you.

There are others around as well. Other people, just as lost and confused as you are. Everyone seems to be lacking any memory that might explain why everyone is here. As far as anyone knows, all of you were just ripped out of your previous lives and dumped here on this snowy road, wearing snow gear and having any items that are important to you already on hand. And for some of you, you even have a new power, one that you somehow instantly know how to use...

Two ways to go: forward and back. Despite having no indication of which way is the 'right' way, you feel drawn towards one direction in particular. Going 'back' is possible, but you get the feeling that you will be even more lost if you try. And given that you have no food or water on you, it's best to keep moving forward.

So, are you ready to walk? Because you have a long road ahead of you.



((Welcome to The Resort! Your characters will have any objects or animals with them that they should have given their canon point, but are dressed in cold weather clothing.

This prompt is just the first part of the intro log. New top-levels will go up over the course of the weekend as everyone progresses from 'where the hell am I?' to the resort proper, and to getting settled in. For now, just start with this prompt. We'll link further updates here for easy access.))

[Faintly brown, actually! It's clearly a blood stain, though it's an old one.

With a little tugging, he manages to pull up the carpet, where There's more staining on the foam pad below. Gross!!

The Rats are definitely coming from the tubing - and unfortunately, the tubes are rather tightly connected to the wall, and when they dive inside, there's no gap for Archimedes to get through. He'd have to walk through the tunnels...]

[Medic's way more excited about this than he should be.] I wonder where the body is? [Just for the sake of thoroughness, he'll look around under the carpet in other places, and try to pull up the foam pad as well, if possible. As for Archimedes, he perches on one of the tunnels, debating. Papa will be mad if he gets too close to rat. But Papa will be happy if Archimedes finds things... Archimedes waits for a lull in the rat traffic and, if possible, just strolls right in, little feet tapping on the tube's floor.]

[There's not much under the foam pad - and it doesn't seem like there's anything else, except...while he's down there, he finds a single tiny metal ball, waay off in a corner. Was it missed by the cleaning staff?

As Archimedes goes into the tubes, the rats strangely don't crowd the bird and attempt to groom! It's almost as if they know their saliva isn't good for the poor thing. The Travel through the tunnels lead archimedes into a large room, with plenty of nests and rats swarming around. Though, there's something off....even though the rats seem to act like individuals, they're...pretty much acting like they have a single mind.]

[Interesting... can Medic make any guesses as to the origin of this weird ball? If not, he's pocketing it for later analysis. If there's nothing else in the room, he'll work on replacing the carpet- it'll probably be very obvious to the Staff that someone tampered with the room, but he tries.

Archimedes spreads his wings and flies away from the tunnel so he doesn't block it for the rats, instead perching on an unoccupied nest. He tilts his head, cooing thoughtfully.

Are there any specific things the rats are doing that hint to this "single mind" thing?]

[Oh yes, actually! Specifically, it's the kind of pellet used in Buckshot.

And as for the rats, they're uneerily cooperative. Almost like humans, really, if not for the fact that there doesn't seem to be any actual communication going on between them. Not only that, but as one rat notices Archimedes perching on a nest, as quickly as lightning, all of them do - and they stare at the bird in utter silence and stillness for a good moment, before they all at once begin to make friendly gestures.]

[honestly, Makoto wasn't planning on interrupting anything but--]

Oh, hello.

[she pushes the door to the room open a little wider.]

[blutsauger]

Ah, hello there!

[Medic calls out from the ground, where he's currently on all floors examining a buckshot pellet.]

I found blood!

[justfists]

Blood?

[oh. interesting. ... why does he sound so delighted...? Are all adults insane?

She comes closer to examine the blood he's looking at, though she's going to keep an eye out for things that don't quite fit in]

It's all old blood, of course, but not cleaned up all that well. They didn't even both repainting the walls! Ha!

[justfists]

How old would you say it is, if it's possible to tell?

[help her out here, doc]

[blutsauger]

Ehh... Hard to tell. [He squints at it, as if that'll help.

He'll also look at the carpet, as if there'll be any clues there as to how recently it was replaced.]

[With his significant medical expertise, Medic will be able to tell that they look to be about 5-6 months old.]

[blutsauger]

... About half a year, if I had to wager a guess, judging by how faded the stains are.

Interesting. All that time, and they haven't cleaned up properly?

[justfists]

I get the feeling it might not be at the top of their priority list. Still... I wonder if there might be some sort of record of what happened?

[because surely the police were called?]

[blutsauger]

Maybe? It could be worth questioning the staff, but they may react- ah- negatively. After all, I doubt we were allowed to trespass here... And there's no telling how much of a coverup there might have been, ja?

[justfists]

... I don't think the staff is, er. Well, I'm not certain they're real.

[blutsauger]

[Cool! Great! Medic pockets the pellet for now. Anything else around here?

Archimedes tenses, nervous with all the attention. That's not normal. Rats not supposed to act like bees. He looks around. Is there a "queen" rat or anything like that. Perhaps a giant rat who makes all of the rules

Also, is there anything that might catch his eye in here? Archimedes is particularly attracted to blood, gore, and shiny things, so that's what he's hoping for the most here.]

[Nope! The room is now clear. Good hustle!

There's no big or queen rat in the room - just a bunch of small ones acting as one mind. Once the rats get the idea Archimedes doesn't want attention, though, they go back to their own business.

There's a shiny pellet in the room, no doubt gathered by the rats. In fact...It's a pellet from buckshot. How did it get all the way here?]

[blutsauger]

[Archimedes perks up immediately. He's gonna swoop down and pick that up in his beak, thank you very much. Are there any other oddities in the area? Perhaps an entry hole in the walls that the buckshot may have come from? Or just other weird shit hanging out in the rat room.]

[No entry holes! It looks like the rats might have carried it here. Other than that, there's just the normal -

Oh. Oh wait. There's very obviously some meat hanging around, cooked, from whatever meal they had recently. Other than that, there's nothing else of interest.]

[blutsauger]

[So, cool fact, Archimedes knows human meat very well because he likes digging in the guts of whoever Medic performs surgery on. With that in mind, can he recognize this meat as human... perhaps not on sight, but if he takes a little. Taste. If it's not human, he might still be able to recognize the taste, just because he's a very weird pigeon.]

Thanks for eating the meat, you weird bird.

The Rats don't seem worried about this in the slightest - for now, they're basically treating Archimedes like another rat doing it's own thing.]

[blutsauger]

[Archimedes is pretty sure Medic doesn't like him eating human that much, so he stops after the one bite. That taste tells him more than enough about what's going on here. Alright, anything else around here, or is it time for him to go?]

[Archimedes takes his leave and goes to find his Dad and tell him about all his adventures with rat tunnels and dead human body parts]
