THE FINAL INVESTIGATION
[A new day comes - and with all of you rested and well, it's time to go back to that door -
back to the alleyway in Waterfall, where the door lies.
Going through it will reveal the room there was before, but...
This time, there's an elevator in the middle, with only one button.
Down.
Hitting it and getting on will eventually take you...
To a dimly lit place, lit only by the thin strips of light from the floor. You can see three ways to go from the elevator - North, East, and West.
It's quiet here, just like everything else.
But...
Finally, you feel as if answers are in reach.
Here...in this hidden, True Lab.]

Anyway, as you continue down this long hallway, the smell of paper becomes much more prevalent....but so, too, does the smell of tears.
Another monitor is there, dark and inactive.]
no subject
[Numbers check!]
...Do you smell that?
no subject
I can't believe the smell of tearing up paper is prevalent.Anyway, thank you for saving my poor eyes.]
Usually, in games, it would be because it doesn't fit in the text box, programming reasons, or like... to separate chunks of texts so that it feels like the player isn't taking in everything at once.
Like if you had two sets of information in the same paragraph, it'd be a little overwhelming, right?
But if you separate it, it's less so.
[As for Yoshi's question:]
... yeah. Kind of weird that you can smell that specifically from here, though...
[If numbers check is clear, we'll poke this monitor too.]
no subject
[Then again, that also applies to the battle menu.
Number check and monitor poke are already spoken for, so Karen just keeps an eye out.]

ENTRY NUMBER 2
MYRIAD IS NO LONGER WITH US. SO SOON AFTER FATHER, AS WELL...
MY GRANDSONS ARE OBVIOUSLY TAKING IT HARD, AND VERDANA....SHE HAS LOST HER WIFE. I HAVE TRIED TO OFFER COMFORT WHERE I COULD, BUT IN TRUTH, WE ALL KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN. HER LOW HP CONDITION ONLY MADE IT A QUESTION OF IF IT WOULD BE HER OR SANS FIRST.
I AM ASHAMED TO ADMIT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE SANS.
THOUGH I AM ALSO GRIEVED, I CANNOT WALLOW IN IT. THERE IS TOO MUCH TO DO, AND TOO MUCH TO FOCUS ON.
PERHAPS FOCUSING ON THIS WILL HELP MITIGATE THE GRIEF.
SHE WAS A GOOD MONSTER, AND WILL BE REMEMBERED FONDLY.
BUT WE MUST CONTINUE ON.

[He seems to have beaten the odds, considering.]

... mmm.
It's looking like the more I read, the more a lot of my thoughts on the matter were right, and I hate it.
[There's a bit of a noise in frustration as she nods her head forward.]
Let's continue?

no subject
...we should probably try the monitor first, right? If it's safe.
[Waiting on Yoshi Check, then she'll turn the monitor on.]

[While they're at it, let's inspect the RECORDS door a little more closely; does the label look old? On the newer side? Is there dust collecting on it or no?]
no subject
The label does look old, with dust collecting on it. It looks like someone hasn't been down this way in 50 years, at least.]
ENTRY NUMBER 3
COLORS HAVE BECOME MUCH MORE VIBRANT, SUDDENLY. AT FIRST, IT WAS THOUGHT TO BE A SICKNESS, BUT IT HAS SPREAD TO THE ENTIRE AREA. OF COURSE, MONSTERS ARE QUITE USED TO STRANGE OCCURRENCES, SO IT WAS ACCEPTED WITHOUT MUCH FUSS.
HOWEVER, WITH THE COLOR'S VIBRANCY, I AM NOW ABLE TO ACTUALLY SEE THAT EACH HUMAN SOUL HAD A DIFFERENT COLOR, COMPARED TO THE SHADES THEY WERE BEFORE. RED AND GREEN WERE INCREDIBLY CLOSE TO EACH OTHER IN SHADE, BUT NOW IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THEM INCORRECT.
WITH THIS DISCOVERY COMES THE REVALATION THAT THE GLASSWARE MADE FROM THE COMMON ORE AROUND HERE ACTUALLY SHIMMERS IN THE SAME COLORS AS THE SPECTRUM OF HUMAN SOUL COLORS.
IN RESPONSE, I HAVE DECIDED TO CALL THE MATERIAL 'SPECTRA'. I WILL BE STUDYING IT IN MORE DETAIL.
[However, there's actually another entry on this monitor.]
ENTRY NUMBER 4
VERDANA HAS FALLEN DOWN
I
I DIDN'T THINK THIS WOULD HAPPEN
I KNOW IT IS A RISK OF BEING A FONT SKELETON. WE HAVE HIGHER CAPACITIES FOR DETERMINATION AND ARE A BRANCH OF THE BOSS MONSTER SPECIES, BUT THAT ALSO MAKES US MUCH MORE PRONE TO BURNING OUT.
I JUST....DID NOT BELIEVE THAT VERDANA....MY VERDANA....WOULD BURN OUT SO QUICKLY.
MY GRANDSONS ARE GROWN, BUT...I...
I
MY LITTLE GIRL.
SHE WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE THE CHANGE IN THE WORLD. SHE LOVED THE NEW COLORS.
...
...I WILL WRITE MORE LATER.
I HAVE
WORK TO DO.

[Noting that the door's been collecting dust, Himeko turns to the monitor, taking screenshots of the text on it as she rests a hand under her chin, deep in thought.]
I wonder...
That should be it from these, right? Yoshi, could you check the door before we go inside?
I'm thinking it should be fine, but just in case.

[Number check on the door!]

Karen gets her CureMo out, just in case.]
Let's go.
no subject
Keep close and vigilant, just in case...
[And Himeko reaches out to turn the knob and open the door.
What are they going to see at first sight?]
no subject
Most of them have to do with Spectra, but there's one left out that looks....weird. There's....that same black goop on it.]
no subject
[Raising a hand to hover near her in case he needs to do an emergency power shut down.
What do the goop numbers look like? If it's too wild he'll nullify himself by holding Inaba's hand.]
no subject
[She has nullification on and will hover near Yoshi.]
Karen - can you check the other binders? The... clean ones?
no subject
[She's being very literal.
Time to look over the binders for anything interesting- or useful-looking.]
