The "me" that chose that ending... he was really, really happy. Because everyone in his world was being made unhappy, but by giving up his life, he could make sure the whole world could be happy again.

He didn't have many friends, though. The ones he did weren't as close as the ones I have here. I think he probably was forgotten in the end, but he didn't mind that.

But if it doesn't make people happy... If it makes them unhappy instead...

[It was so nice, having that simple world view, with numbers to guide him every step of the way to ensure other people's happiness. But now he can't see the numbers, and the people he wants to make happy can all become so very unhappy if something happens to him.

It's a difficult problem with no clear solution, and - he doesn't really like it.
