[She wears a rather thin smile, even if it doesn't exactly reach her eyes at the current moment.]

Are you good at cooking, Karen?

[Karen declines to comment on the extent of anyone's smile. For herself, she's going for "business first, feelings later" neutral face.

Which doesn't entirely hold up when she winces a little.]

...I can follow a recipe.

[That's... when her expression falters, a short sigh passing her lips. This actually makes sense, just a little bit.]

I have it on my phone, for the record. The recipe. I'm no master chef, and I won't doubt that Ren's probably better at this than I could be, but... curry's one of the few things that I'm good at.

[Specifically Japanese curry, though.]

It kind of makes me miss home a little too, though.

[At least Karen understands her cooking-related limits these days...]

[It's not really the curry's fault in Karen's case, but she's trying to support Inaba right now.]

--well. It can't be too difficult, right?

Well - we're not using MRE curry.

[Because that exists, apparently.]

The difficult part is making the sauce, really.

[Just because they have an effectively infinite supply of MREs...]

Sauce, then. What do we need?

[She'll list a bunch of spices, flour and butter off the top of her head. Inaba's rather precise in her ingredient count and how much is necessary for it.

After that, she'll list a bunch of other ingredients as well.]

That should be it - basically, we're trying to make a roux... I believe it was called, for the curry. We first need to cook the flour in butter until it's a caramel brown and then add the spices in.

After that, we just need to deal with the broth, vegetables and meat. Chicken is the go to here, so we'll go with that.

[Karen at least recognizes all the ingredients! That's not really an accomplishment or anything, but it's worth establishing a baseline here.]

Right. That sounds straightforward enough. So we start by cooking the flour...

It's simple enough. Just pay close attention to it as it's cooking.

Anyway - cooking will happen and Inaba opts to start some small talk, since otherwise it'd be a pretty quiet cooking session.]
