Week 7: Fast Forward to 2020

It is done.

The last tape has played. All of the information that can be found from them has been discovered. They are free to re-watch the tapes, but nothing new can be found there.

The barrier will fail next Saturday. This is unavoidable. The barrier set by Tages will finally fall, and the curse will be free once more.

The only question is, what will those left alive in 2020 do to prepare?

I-I was thinking about the walls and rooms in the house, actually!!

Anyway, I've been working on things all day, I wanted some fresh air.

[sageking]

[ Judging by the amused sound coming from Gilgamesh's direction, he seemed to find the words in that first sentence sounding more or less like more of an excuse. ]

... If you wanted to have the rare opportunity to simply pass conversation, all you needed to do was say as much; I'm feeling generous to make an allowance for it. You should also tell me how your preparations have been going while we're at it.

I did not want that, as a matter of fact, but fine.

[ He'd wanted to avoid conversation without being too obvious about it, and look where that got him...

There's a huffy sigh. ]

They're going well enough. I've got the plans for the... [ god this is still embarrassingly lame ] ...water guns drawn up in detail, and have put in the order for materials, so I should be able to start on construction tomorrow.

...I've also been refreshing myself on the mechanics of large commercial vehicles in the meantime, since apparently that's going to be a thing.

[ He's giving probably what was an insufferable smirk, along with a little chuckle. ]

As expected, you work fast. Perhaps even quicker now, despite the years that've changed you...slightly.

I'm sure the other mongrels will be grateful for your service. Despite it being what it is, it's something necessary, after all.

Of course I'm faster now; I'm much more familiar with this world's mechanics than I was twenty years ago. ...Not that I'm dealing with complicated technology in this case, obviously.

[ He frowns a bit at the phrasing of that second part. ]

You're above things like gratitude, though, hm? Or do you just think that I owe everyone something?

Though you've drawn up those plans, I've yet to see them in action. I'm not about to put forth any gratitude from my end prematurely.

[ So even if he thought it could be helpful, he's the type of person who would value the results in the end.

...that being said, it was still up in the air if he would even express some even then, so. Yeah. ]

Frankly, having seen other projects of mine completed before, I'd think you could feel comfortable giving me the benefit of the doubt here, but I suppose it doesn't really matter anyway.

[ And it's not the worst answer he could have gotten. ]

After we're done here, I suppose you plan on going back into hiding?

I plan on using any resources available to get back to my own world.

Of course it is; I still have important things to do there. It's why I refused to stay trapped in that stupid house in the first place.

...From what I understand, you've a herculean task in front of you.

If you 'somehow' manage it, I imagine you will make sure to bid a proper farewell to whatever friends you've managed to make in this world.
