Week 7: Fast Forward to 2020

It is done.

The last tape has played. All of the information that can be found from them has been discovered. They are free to re-watch the tapes, but nothing new can be found there.

The barrier will fail next Saturday. This is unavoidable. The barrier set by Tages will finally fall, and the curse will be free once more.

The only question is, what will those left alive in 2020 do to prepare?

I'm afraid I didn't know about him being a part of this group either. In the end, most of us were here for Tages, so that Mayuri doesn't end up as an O5.

Still, if there's a chance we can help everyone, isn't it worth looking into?

What, you didn't watch the video or anything either? The hell were you doing this whole time??

[Nora skipped so much of the videos too because too many meetings so like. He really has no room to talk. But he's opening his barking mouth anyways, because that's just how he operates.]

I don't care about helpin', I said. I'm just here to fight these stupid... ghosts... [grumbles] Who the hell's Mayuri??

That's not what I--

[Wait, this is Nora, after all. She needs to explain things step by step here.]

Okay, let me try and explain. Mayuri is a Shinigami who works for the Foundation. He's the one that made the gigai most of us are using to contain our souls here. He's also a complete mad scientist who looks like a clown, and has rigged our bodies to potentially control us whenever he likes. He's also very popular with some of the higher-ups in the Foundation. So much so, that when people realized that Tages was missing, he was considered to be the most likely candidate to take Tages's position as an O5.

An O5, if you'll recall, would basically mean he is one of the most important people in the foundation, and would more or less have freedom to do whatever he liked, which would be bad for almost all of us here, including those of us staying with Watanuki, as Mayuri has shown an interest in capturing Watanuki to see how his powers work.

So to prevent his becoming an O5, we needed to discover the current location of Tages, and bring him back before the voting went through. For that purpose, we went here to investigate a failed mission from 20 years ago, that apparently ended with everyone missing, presumed dead, and Tages using his power to seal the place off. However, Tages's power was so strong that everything related to the mission was forgotten until shortly before we were sent here, and some of his power also made any documentation on the mission completely blank until the power wore out, forcing us to more or less watch the videos in real time. Before the videos unblocked themselves, we had no idea who was involved in this mission, beyond Tages.

[He somehow didn't fall asleep during the 100-year exposition there but it was a VERY NEAR MISS. In fact he's just about to doze off when Ellie finishes up and sort of pops his head up with a start and shakes it a bit.]

... Hah?? All I got out of that was this mission is stupid an' everything is stupid complicated for no reason like the Foundation always is!

[Seriously, when a mission needs a three-paragraph explanation you're better off just pointing him at what to hit next. Speaking of which:]

Can't we just fuckin' kill off this clown tags guy or whatever.
