WEEK 2 - TRIAL

TRIAL

The morning seemed so far away yesterday - yet, it also seems too soon when morning comes and you are all yet again ushered to the third floor by The Lady. The Captain is there, in all of his....glory? It's hard to tell.

The doors close, and he speaks up, this time reclining on one of the couches in the room.

"You know the drill - Since one of you have died during the game, it's your responsibility to try and vote someone out. You have six hours to talk about it, but then-"

He taps on a box on the coffee table in front of him, labeled 'VOTES'.

"-you'll have to put in your vote so someone can be punished. You all saw what happens when you refuse to play, right?"

He leans back, placing his hands behind his head.

"So get to it."

As he says that, music begins to play in the room...

VICTIM: YOSHI NANASE

You said it was possessing him, right? And there are eight execution methods, right? So let me ask you:

Why would there be eight execution methods? If it was just for show, they wouldn't make us select it, they'd choose it on their own, even if they might still make us do it. So the choice is important.

The next part is, if it's possession, then that means it should be able to survive even if the body's lost, correct? I mean, I can safely that dying does not necessarily mean that one's gone for good.

So if we combine these two questions, then the question is: "How can we guarantee that any of these execution methods will work?" Even if they kill the body, that doesn't necessarily mean anything. It might just possess someone else instead.

.... fuck. She's got a point.

...The big thing though, is that immolation was one of the execution methods. That spider web, as you saw, was immune to fire, wasn't it? In other words, if it was executed with immolation as a method, it probably wouldn't work, right? So I'm pretty sure that at least a few of the execution methods aren't going to work on certain monsters.

Then what do we do? If we vote for Flat-san, then the Barghest might survive. And since it's a ghost, it would probably just possess someone else, right?

But if we vote for someone else and keep Flat-san here, we could be voting out an innocent person! And on top of that, the Barghest would be free to kill again!

...I can't tell you. I can't give any guarantees. I'll test what I can, but there's a limit to how much I can test. We don't have any spider webs to test on, either.

Based on the water dissolving the webs, perhaps drowning for the Jorogumo?
duskhound: (Default)

[personal profile] duskhound 2018-12-08 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably, but if we get some more webs, we should try and hit it with electricity just in case.

At the very least, we know fire and stabbing is out.

That's two methods eliminated.

[just. blinks slowly]

I hadn't. . . thought about that.

Of course, we can't be sure, but... I think it's likely. That most of the execution methods won't affect the monsters. At the very least, using fire on the Jorogumoo is definitely going to backfire on us.

Still, we need samples and tests to be sure. There weren't any webs this time around, so we couldn't gather them to test, so all we really know is that they stop getting sticky when wet.

[aha]

I still have that fur.

Do you want it back to run tests on it?
duskhound: (Default)

[personal profile] duskhound 2018-12-08 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It would be good if we can. the puppy's fur might be helpful too, since if we can trust Ryoga, whatever was wearing the boots smelled the same as the puppy.

Still... Hanging, Drowning, Stabbing, Immolation, Electrocution, The Iron Maiden... I think I've forgotten one or two, too... I'm not sure how to test some of those. Drowning and Immolation are easy enough to test, but the rest...

Can't hang a piece of fur.

[he knows]

What about their legends? What if we draw from those in an attempt to figure out their weakness?

[personal profile] duskhound 2018-12-08 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
...I'll have to depend on someone else for that, the legends we have back home, umm... Aren't exactly relevant here.
purrtagonist: (Can I take a rain-check on Valhalla?)

I know a little bit, but--

[mmm]

I'll have to do my research. But we have to know that drowning is likely the way to defeat the Jorogumo, right? Because water melted the webbing.

[personal profile] duskhound 2018-12-08 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the most likely case, but I still think we should try hitting a web with electricity just to be sure. Thankfully, stabbing and fire has already been tested.

The execution methods for last week were... hanging, drowning, stabbing, strangling, immolation, electrocution, and the Iron Maiden. But we weren't correctly targeting the Jorogumo last week, so we'd have to -- see what they are this week before we can be sure.

[Or I guess in forward-dated land they can learn more. But anyway.]

The spider web also wasn't affected by stabbing, but it might be hard to figure things out just from testing a part of the creature.
