TRIAL

The morning seemed so far away yesterday - yet, it also seems too soon when morning comes and you are all yet again ushered to the third floor by The Lady. The Captain is there, in all of his....glory? It's hard to tell.

The doors close, and he speaks up, this time reclining on one of the couches in the room.

"You know the drill - Since one of you have died during the game, it's your responsibility to try and vote someone out. You have six hours to talk about it, but then-"

He taps on a box on the coffee table in front of him, labeled 'VOTES'.

"-you'll have to put in your vote so someone can be punished. You all saw what happens when you refuse to play, right?"

He leans back, placing his hands behind his head.

"So get to it."

As he says that, music begins to play in the room...

. . . It was, a little bit. But I didn't think that they were going to target anybody that was part of the tie from last week, and look at where we are.

So you assumed they'd try to keep you alive to potentially scapegoat you in the future?

[dereban]

Yeah.

I mean... I act pretty suspiciously, don't I?

[purrtagonist]

I didn't think so. In fact, the fact that you got three votes was a surprise to me.

[dereban]

I'm pretty sure I know the reasoning behind it, but that's a conversation that we can table for later.

[purrtagonist]

You expectin' to get targeted through the voting today?

I think she wants to be targeted through voting today.

There's a role in some games of mafia called "the Fool," where their win condition is to be falsely executed at trial.

[God fucking dammit. Ripley looks...well. Conflicted.]

What would happen if they were to win, anyways?

[purrtagonist]

The same thing that would happen if the mafia were to win, or the town were to win.

Which is to say: I've got no clue.

[since the staff won't confirm what happens when people win!!]

[Uggghhhhh]

This throws a wrench into what little plans we had. [Said in a dry tone.] But this shouldn't stop us from convicting whoever looks the most suspicious. I mean, as long as there's damning evidence or a strong argument to be made.

[purrtagonist]

[he nods at that, but clarifies]

All of the suspicion towards Inaba was created by herself, and the behavior she displayed Thursday evening and now today. Because of that, and because I think it's likely that she has a third-party role, I won't be voting for her.

[xenoqueen]

[hmmmm. Ripley sighs and nods carefully.]

Understandable.

[purrtagonist]

[his mouth twitches, grateful she didn't argue with him]

Besides, I'd like to focus on catching Yoshi-kun's killer. [his hands ball into fists] For plenty of reasons.

[xenoqueen]

I'd like to, as well. But unless we can somehow summon up a hidden confession note somewhere, I don't know if we'll be able to catch them today.

...For now, we'll just have to continue and see where our conclusions bring us.

[purrtagonist]

[a deep breath, and Akira's eyes slip shut]

Marathon, not a sprint. Right?

[xenoqueen]

[Ripley grimaces.] Right. Keep our eyes on the goal.

[It's clear from her tone of voice she doesn't like it, though. Why couldn't things be simple, where you know what the alien stalking you looks like?]

[purrtagonist]

[it's okay, it's clear in the way holds himself to tensely, so tersely, that he doesn't like it, either]

Eyes on the prize.

I won't lose sight of that.

[dereban]

[ pointedly not going to say anything, but just giving him a surprised look ]

Are you sure we're dealin' with one of those in this game?

[purrtagonist]

I'm not 100% positive.

But I think it's more likely than not.

[xenoqueen]

I question this, as well. It's something to consider, but not confirm until we have further information.
