WEEK 2 - TRIAL

TRIAL

The morning seemed so far away yesterday - yet, it also seems too soon when morning comes and you are all yet again ushered to the third floor by The Lady. The Captain is there, in all of his....glory? It's hard to tell.

The doors close, and he speaks up, this time reclining on one of the couches in the room.

"You know the drill - Since one of you have died during the game, it's your responsibility to try and vote someone out. You have six hours to talk about it, but then-"

He taps on a box on the coffee table in front of him, labeled 'VOTES'.

"-you'll have to put in your vote so someone can be punished. You all saw what happens when you refuse to play, right?"

He leans back, placing his hands behind his head.

"So get to it."

As he says that, music begins to play in the room...

I was with Cinque, and we were supposed to meet up with Nanashi, too. He never showed up. We spent time looking for him, but didn't see him before midnight.

Did you check the outdoors?

We checked as many places as we could, including his room. But not everyone was in their room that night, anyway. I was worried, but I thought we might have just missed him going somewhere else.

[More like, she forcibly hoped for that. Cinque and Nanashi are kind of the social butterflies of this group.]

So the corpse wasn't there yet?

No. We all fall asleep at midnight, right? I assume that the monsters kill after that. Otherwise it would be too easy for someone to walk in on them.

Which means Yoshi might have lied to you guys and voluntarily went to meet his killer. Sounds like him anyway.

I'm not denying that he's... like that, but if the killer wasn't the only one involved in this, then...

[Exhibit A: Puppy zoomy and go through doors. She indicates that chaos with a tilt of her head.]

.... you're saying the dog was bait.

He'd be stupid enough to follow a puppy coming through his door on a Thursday night, wouldn't he?

[I'm sorry Nanashi she's just going around calling you names left and right but look.]

... yep.

[Someone's trying to catch her hand. Their grip is shaky.]

[She jumps a little, but relaxes and lets her hand be caught.]

Hello? Um... Once for Appy-kun, twice for the Medic, three times for Granz-san, four times for... for Nanashi.

[They really are going to need a better system if this keeps happening, RIP but literally.]

[It's four.

And then she will feel someone quite short give her a tight and trembling hug.]

[She freezes for a moment but then puts her arms up and hugs him back fiercely.]

Nanashi... Are you trying to tell us something?

[She'll be able to feel him shaking his head from side to side. But the hug remains tight.]

[She's quiet for a moment, composing herself. Tamping down emotions. Staying in the hug, though. Her voice is still tight when she speaks again.]

It's fine. We'll figure it out. We'll make them regret targeting you. [...] I'll make them regret it.

[A nod. The ghost releases her...

And then gives two pats on the shoulder encouragingly.]

When were you supposed to meet up with him?

We were going to stay the night together, so Cinque and I went to his room later in the evening since it was the one we used for the sleepover before.

[There's probably still some remnant sleepover furniture.]

He didn't answer when we knocked, so we went looking around the resort instead.

[ ... ]

...if he was playing with Flat for awhile, and you couldn't find him when you looked around, he'd have to have known that you guys went to his room to try to meet up with him if you knocked.

That's... true. Does that mean he was in his room the whole time and just didn't answer?

[She's frowning now, brows drawing down. She's been assuming he wasn't there all this time and???]

I think so, since he was playing with him for such a long time. [ ... ] Putting just that together, Yoshi already knew he planned on meeting up with you guys, or said as much. But, he'd already seemed to have decided for whatever reason not to.

I don't know whether or not it's just based on his trusting nature, because that's an easy thing to assume...but it makes me wonder if it was because of something else too?

Like, he could have already had contact with the killer at some point, or found a clue? I just... if he was in his room that whole time, even if he didn't want to trust me or Cinque with anything, he could have left something.

[He did leave something, but she's not sure it's possible to glean something for the investigation from that. What are they missing...]

[ Roxas looks thoughtful...there's really so little (as expected) they have to work with. ]

One of the things I was thinking of was maybe that yeah he might've had contact with the killer at some point. I'm more unsure of that though because I wouldn't know how they'd be able to do something like that earlier on without leaving a trail, and Yoshi would probably at least warned someone if that happened. Or left something behind mentioning it'd happened.

So right now we know Flat was playing with him for hours, but it might be that he didn't even think to really leave you guys behind something. Or, by the time he was done playing, it was really too late for that.

Really...the only thing he really left behind was the key to his room in that couch that was in the lobby. I don't think that was intentional though?

[ But he wouldn't know that for sure. ]

It's really hard to say -- I assumed there was some intent behind it because it led us to his room, and then the journal, and we'd just been talking about leaving behind messages and clues not that long ago.

[But she acknowledges that that was a bigger assumption made on spur of the moment. She wouldn't have trusted her own judgment yesterday, looking back.]

But what we know for sure is that... he probably left his room at some point without a struggle or anything else suspicious. And I don't think he would have left it locked without the key. So the key got there sometime between when he left his room Thursday night and when he was killed.
