RECORDING 7: THE THIRD WEEK.

A third week in this place begins, with less of your number among you. The final week completely covered by everyone's rations, though with proper meting out, you'll be able to make it stretch until after week 4. It seems as if everyone will have to go without a few meals here and there..

To make things worse, when you wake up - it's clear the Miasma has gotten thicker. Everyone, save those still protected either by their powers or items they brought with them, is now even more deeply affected by the curse. Arguments will be flaring up more, along with negative thoughts and feelings...and even more worrying Is that any magic that touches the house itself will corrode over time. If a barrier is put in place and touches the floor, walls, or ceiling, in half a day it will be completely consumed by the miasma and fizzle out. Spells or seals will also corrode, and even personal healing abilities have been halved.

The Temperature has dropped, just a bit - down to the mid to low 60's. Strange, isn't it? As before,the rooms have changed, so hopefully you kept anything essential in the static area.

Everyone one is, and I assume you'd know better. [ Maybe his faith is just a bit too strong here or maybe he's missing the point. ]

[Haku considers that for a moment, but slowly starts moving away from the closet. Not that he's tired exactly, but there's not really a point to standing around in the hallway when they could be sitting. He doesn't ask Hikage to follow, but assumes he will if this answer matters.

There are a bunch of ways he could answer, but it isn't until he takes a seat on the living room couch that he speaks up.]

Maybe you have those powers because you're the vessel of that mansion.

[ He throws Haku a look but yeah he'll follow, though he doesn't sit;tonight's really been a night.

The surprise is written clear on his face when he hears the theory. ]

Huh? You think I'm like those ghosts here? [ He crosses his arms. ] It's not a completely outlandish theory but...is there some other reason you think that beyond my ability?

[For his part Haku draws both of his legs up onto the couch and rests his cheek on his knees. It hasn't exactly been a good day for him either.]

The fact that you don't find it outlandish says quite a bit already.

[He takes a deep breath, his voice just a little above whisper soft.]

You really don't find it strange that for a place that exists between life and death that there was still so much that was familiar to you? Why was there miso paste for example?

[Because that for sure was not Haku's experience with interreality travels. Like what the fuck is American food.]

I said completely outlandish, and that's because I need to be willing to entertain any thought no matter how out there it is.

[ Guess he's just holding up this wall then, bandaged hand tucked underneath his good one. ]

It was familiar to all of us. As far as I could tell, everyone there was Japanese. The items in there could have come from any one of us, or it could have been a collective from all of us.

But you were the only one with an ability that conveniently tied back to the theme of that place.

[But frankly, he doesn't care to argue this. Haku sighs and closes his eyes.]

It isn't as though I like this theory. As I said, i'm biased. I'd prefer to believe any theory that could plausibly mean you didn't suffer.

So you think that place was controlling me like the Vessels here?

[dreamshielder]

[He's silent for a moment.]

I'm not sure if it's that straightforward. The vessels and ghosts here ... they're empty shells that exist to do the bidding of the curse. It seems a little different in your case. But maybe that's just because I want it to be.

If this is true, there could be any number of reasons for it. Not to mention that I've been removed from that world for several months now.

[ There's still pushback, maybe he's in denial or maybe he's stubborn or maybe it's because he hasn't told Haku everything yet. All of them are equally likely, but it's impossible to know right now unless you're someone named Ango Sakaguchi. ]

...you can tell me what you want, and you can tell me what you don't want the truth to be. [ A sigh. ] I've spent so much time thinking about it, that it probably won't be news to me. [ Which might explain his surprise but not complete befuddlement earlier. ]

Can you?

[There is a bit of a precedent of Hikage forcequitting conversation due to a headache and all.]

[ That kind of feels like a low blow but thinking about it.... ]

Maybe not tonight, but I can.

[dreamshielder]

Then ask me some other time.

I'm also not feeling very well.

Alright, I will. [ He detaches himself from the wall and looks at his bandaged hand. ]

Thanks for tonight. I don't think I can be of any use to you right now, but I can wake Marona for you if you want.

[dreamshielder]

[Immediate headshake.]

Marona needs as much rest as she can get. I doubt her magic would help much anyway.

...if you're sure. [ A beat. ] Do you want me to stay with you for a while, or would you rather be alone?
