RECORDING 7: THE THIRD WEEK.

A third week in this place begins, with less of your number among you. The final week completely covered by everyone's rations, though with proper meting out, you'll be able to make it stretch until after week 4. It seems as if everyone will have to go without a few meals here and there..
To make things worse, when you wake up - it's clear the Miasma has gotten thicker. Everyone, save those still protected either by their powers or items they brought with them, is now even more deeply affected by the curse. Arguments will be flaring up more, along with negative thoughts and feelings...and even more worrying Is that any magic that touches the house itself will corrode over time. If a barrier is put in place and touches the floor, walls, or ceiling, in half a day it will be completely consumed by the miasma and fizzle out. Spells or seals will also corrode, and even personal healing abilities have been halved.
The Temperature has dropped, just a bit - down to the mid to low 60's. Strange, isn't it? As before, the rooms have changed, so hopefully you kept anything essential in the static area.
25 of your number still remain.
...What new horrors await you this week?
Library;
His gaze cast across the room, and he stepped closer, considering both the books nearby as well as Haku, who was indulging in an activity he hadn't seen him do before. ]
Oh? Was the literature in this accursed place so boring you tired of it for the moment?
no subject
Something like that.
[A beat.]
It's simply that even with all the variability between worlds the reasons people go to war don't ever seem to change. It's tiring.

The blond will finally take a book from a shelf, though he won't open it, even though his eyes lay upon the cover in a hint of curiosity. ]
...Such is the nature of humanity, and even those beyond it. The mongrels who make those useless struggles for the sake of themselves are hardly worth thinking of.
[ He's seen those things. At one time, a deplorable future where he himself had met such disillusion...it was unsightly. But there was reason for it too, and now he cast his gaze back upon Haku. ]
But, I ask you...what do you believe to be at the end of it all? What awaits them, after going through constant, seemingly circular struggles?

His own mother, his own clan, had been all but hunted down for their role in Kirigakure's civil war. It'd be easy enough to say that there's nothing that war leaves behind but broken families and generations of hatred -- he's living proof of such things, after all. But in the end that isn't the answer he gives. He looks up, filled with conviction.]
A dream, I think. That the future can be made into a better one.
[It is, after all, the path that someone precious has shown him.]
no subject
Such words were undoubtedly poetic, and sounded naive. But perhaps so did his own suppositions earlier on in this mess.
He remembered speaking of his own dream that he shared with the person he considered to be his one friend. ]
Perhaps so. An interesting answer to hear even now when in essence our own future could be considered to be uncertain. And the foolishness of those mongrels are ceaselessly repeated.
[ ... ]
Of course, I don't hate such a response. The idea of creating a better future in the face of immense futility is too ideal. Something that perhaps only gods believed they could truly obtain. But that's why it'd be an admirable end.
no subject
Gods and demons, apparently.
[He shakes his head with a sheepish laugh.]
What's your answer, if I may ask?
no subject
He found nothing wrong with such an assumption either. ]
Surprisingly one that rang close in tune with the one you had just gave.
[ Gilgamesh had seen a future that the gods undoubtedly despised. A dream that had made them writhe. The reason for his creation that he defied, him turning his back on their for him to become their would-be Lynchpin of Heaven. ]
I've no interest in struggles that seemingly persist for the sake of persisting. And for ends that come in order to bring about a conclusion that is meaningless. Nor have I any interest in futures that display all mongrels that have lost the will to do anything in such an outcome and just follow mindlessly without a will.

I see. My opinion here means nothing of course, but your kingdom....it's very fortunate to have you as its leader to guide it.
[Maybe that's presumptuous to say, but it's sincere.]
I wish I could see what Uruk is like.
no subject
It's a pity he didn't have a picture or anything...not that it should properly capture how the city-state had appeared. ]
As to be expected, my kingdom was fortunate to have someone like myself to guide it. However, even though you saying as much doesn't change that fact, I'll gladly accept such words, as they're nothing but the truth.
[ ... ]
Doubtless you'd have loved it, even without knowing how it looks beforehand—there was much to enjoy and much to see. And though it'd been far too late for you to meet anyone else worth a personal introduction, I could easily see you getting along well with many I've known.
no subject
[Quietly, he closes his book.]
Forgive me for asking, but ... are you lonely then?
[Hard to miss the past tense there.]
no subject
[ A memory came upon him. Of two people who stood nearby each other, watching people celebrate in a feast among the night sky.
"Why won't you tell people those words? At the rate you're going, not one person will understand you.
...You'll be all alone to the very end."
"I'm not alone. There's someone who I'm—" ]
...Hmph. And what's suddenly brought this question on?
no subject
[He takes a breath.]
And sometimes being surrounded by people who aren't the ones you wish to see can be lonelier than simply being alone. [A beat.] At least that was my experience of it.
You don't have to answer if you'd rather not.
no subject
They were really no longer among the living, so...he drew his gaze away to look at their surroundings once more.
Talking to Haku reminded him of one of those people. Though there was an absurd difference. No one could ever truly compare to Enkidu, after all. ]
You're correct that those 'people' are no longer with me.
[ He was too stubborn to acknowledge those words then, and felt too stubborn to believe in them now, so it's no surprise he had little interest in admitting such a thing directly. ]
And it should remain that way. The Foundation has been enough of a nuisance already by bringing us here; seeing more than one familiar face in all of this here would bring too great of a test on my patience.
no subject
Being alone in a place like this is decidedly for the best, even if that may be lonely.
[He lowers his gaze.]
Were these people your friends? [Do Kings even have friends? If ninja aren't meant to have that luxury, then maybe it's not so different for kings. Haku really wouldn't know.]
no subject
[ It's hardly something he ever spoke of, nor did he hold much interest in doing so. It was a time where, even though he had barriers between him and most people, they were probably the thinnest they had ever been. Even if they were still difficult to break through; nigh impossible to do so.
But only Enkidu had managed to do it. Sidhuri wasn't counted a 'friend', though he had come to value her presence as well. ]
...Once upon a time, one of them was. But time takes its toll on all things, and with them, all who are destined to fall with it.
Knowing that, I understand having such things is no longer tenable for a person in my position.
[ At least, Gilgamesh wouldn't admit to others when he did end up gaining a bond that cemented someone as a 'friend'. ]
