nobody's in the mood for recording 6.9: the post-trial garden tea "party"

- The flowers that bloomed at the end of the trial are ones that only seem to prove, continuously, that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Of course, it's only natural that many of the people are full of mixed emotions - grief? sadness? anger? frustration? maybe something else completely different?
But it's there, along with the end of the week.
Miasma still continues to be around, of course - but make use of the fact that this might be the last time it'll be at a low level one before it shoots up again.
Well.
Life continues as usual, disregarding any feelings that any of the house's occupants might be feeling.
So what are you doing these next two days?

Battler...!
[Her hands reach over, grip soft to take his, trying to coax him to calm down.]
Battler, please don't cry...
[...This was odd, this was really odd. She didn't know what to say.]
Battler, let me ask one thing... you said I had tried to keep you from seeing this... grisly murder scene? Are you sure it was what you think it was? ...Had blood gotten anywhere? Had I gotten blood on my new yellow jacket?
no subject
Still, he grips back - and shakes his head. This...at least, he could tell the truth from this.]
I remember - because I forced my way past you, and...
[His head sinks lower, shoulders shaking.]
Their stomachs....were open, and their guts....there was candy shoved into the open cavities...spilling out onto the floor, and the table...!
[Yet, even now, he still feels that anger he felt, when Beatrice taunted him about not touching their faces so he knew they were dead. It causes him to tighten his grip, but for a moment...but then lessens, as he wipes his face on his shoulder.]
So, I...when you said that, I...remembered that scene, and I....
['I'm lying.
I hate this, so, so much.
Why do I have to lie like this to her?
...No, I know why.
I have to lie...because otherwise, she'd never accept it.
...Aunt Rosa...I'm so sorry.']
...Please...don't say things like that anymore...

[She hadn't meant to yell, but he was starting to tread on memories she did not want to relive with him in the room. Her voice became low, even... but obviously forced.]
Well, the important thing is it was all just a dream.
[She put on her 'stern mother' look. Not her 'angry, lost-control-of-herself' look, at least not yet.]
Do you hear me Battler? I am not saying you're crazy. I believe you. I believe you saw those things. Me in my yellow jacket, standing there trying to hold you back from such a gruesome image... that red cravat I had on probably all messed up in the panic. But, I'm telling you, it couldn't possibly have happened.
The chapel is Father's special place. Since I was a child, I was told I was to never go near there. Under pain of pain. There is no way Krauss-nii-san, Natsuhi-nee-san, Eva-nee-san, Hideyoshi-san, Kyrie-nee-san, and your father, would ever have gone there... let alone have had their stomachs full of... that.
Something is having fun with you. Unless Rokkenjima suddenly turned into its own SCP where a ghost could create anything out of thin air, there is, and read my lips as I say it, Battler...
[A pause, to make sure he raised his head to look at her.]
No.
Way.
That.
Would.
Happen.

...Yellow jacket..? Red cravat? What are you talking about...?
[Still looking at her, he shakes his head.]
You were wearing a black jacket with a white cravat - with the family's crest on it. You were also wearing a maroon skirt...I remember thinking the whole thing looked nice, when I first saw it.

[Ah, yes. He was biting at the bait... the bait she'd set for him. The bait she'd set up for Battler to trip on and fall over into the cage. The cage where Battler would be stuck in his dreamworld while Rosa sat safely in reality. He'd bit at the bait. He was chewing the bait. He'd swallowed the bait. The bait was sitting in his stomach and digesting as they spoke, at that very second.]

[Her hands held his, steady.]
Maria's outfit! Describe it!! NOW!!
no subject
Yeah.
I know what this is.
Aaah...I should've just kept my mouth shut, after all...'
He closes his eyes, taking in a breath before responding.]
She was wearing a black and pink outfit, with a pink handbag...and a tiny black crown on her head.
[He would have asked if she'd had that made or found it...if he wasn't sure what her next words were going to be.
She was going to attempt to make him believe she'd worn a different outfit. That it really was just a dream...
...It would be so much easier if it was just a nightmare, right? Or if...he really was just insane.
'Am I....really sure....that I'm not...?']
...Aunt Rosa...why are you asking me this?
1/?
no subject
First, eyes-wide, because, of course, that was how Rosa had dressed Maria up. Down to the crown. There was no way on Earth Battler could have spontaneously created that image.
Second, stark terror, as her mouth tried to form words, but it turned into useless sputtering.]

Y-You...

[Kind-Aunt Rosa was stripped away. This? This was Survival Mode.
She flung Battler's hands from hers, scooting back.]
So... what? They all die, ha ha, ha?? Don't try to make me laugh, Battler!
no subject
Instead, she starts yelling, and - it brings back those memories, unfortunately, of the game he'd just been talking about -
He shakes his head, frantically.]
I - I'm not kidding, Aunt Rosa! I saw it all, and I just - I don't want to see you dead!
['You should be saying again.
After all, she's died more times than she's lived, in the games...
But you're going to keep lying to her, aren't you?
All Because You Know Your Aunt Can't Be Trusted.
You're disgusting.
For as much as you cried over them, and lectured Beatrice...
You also were happy that it was only Aunt Rosa who might die this time!!!
And now you're telling her this, when you should have just stayed silent...
What kind of absolute, incompetent idiot are you?!'
'...Who's...voice is that...?
...Oh, that's right.
It's...mine, isn't it...?']
I just...I just wanted to make sure you'd be safe...! B-But, I know you were worried how I was looking at you, so I - I couldn't keep it a secret anymore...!
no subject
[Krauss, Eva, Rudolf, even Natsuhi, Hideyoshi, and Kyrie dead... and...]
Wait a minute... you're still lying, aren't you?
no subject
[He can't even finish the sentence.]
I'm...I'm not, I promise!
[He always was a terrible liar, and he should just run, but -
'No. We can't, because then everything'd just break between us, right?
And I...I don't want that to happen...
...Right?']
no subject
[...this wasn't going to get the information she needed out of him.
Already having scooted out of her chair, she rose up and moved to block the exit by stepping between it and Battler. There were two doors, so she had to hedge her bets by standing in the middle of both of them. No matter which he tried to move to, she would be able to intercept.
Well, he was taller and no doubt stronger than her. If he truly used all his strength, it'd be likely he could shove her or otherwise run over her. But could he?]
...Battler-kun.
[Her tone grew dark and distant and cold again.]
Explain to me one thing.
If the story is only true how much you said it is, just now, then why did you start to tear up when I said: "I wish I could've gone to Monte Carlo, at least one time, before I died."
Can you answer that?
no subject
[He can't...think. Even doing that is killing him, because wasn't it thinking that got him into this situation in the first place?
He wants to stop. Please let this stop, no, go back - why can't he ever just have a single, happy moment with his family without a damned sword of damocles hanging over the scene..?! Why does he have to remember, and keep everything inside?! Why did it have to be Rosa who was here, and not anyone else?!
Why....did he have to be such an idiot....?!
But, he forces himself to speak, pushing the words past frozen lips.]
I, I....can't.....I can't....tell you. I can't tell you!
[Because the truth would break her, wouldn't it?
No, he's still lying to himself.
...He doesn't want to see her disbelieve what he says again.]

--God damn it, Battler, we all knew the conference was going to be a disaster! Every single one of us knew Father was dead! And you're telling me people start getting murdered because of it??
You're going to tell me what you know, or... or...
no subject
She doesn't want to cross that line either, where she starts threatening Battler, of all people...]
...
Hey, Battler-kun... this is too public.
[She took her 'calm, polite tone' of voice again.]
--You've got things I want to hear, and it'll be worse now if you keep it inside.
[Worse for her at least.]
Let's... let's find some place private and chat about this. ...Please?
Please, Battler...
1/???
And then, she calms down. Like nothing ever happened, like she was just that kind Aunt Rosa
Even though that's a lie, isn't it? It's a lie, you're lying, over and over again, just like meand nothing was wrong and she was just concerned -'Battler-kun, I've concluded that you are a wolf.']
no subject
.....Go....talk in private? ...Ha, hahaha....Or what?
[His body language changes - from fear and shock to something more confident, more squared off.]
Huh? Hey, tell me...Aunt Rosa. You're just going to start yelling at me where no one can see, right? Right?!
3/4
Or what, Aunt Rosa?! Go on, just go on - Go ahead and point another goddamn gun in my face and tell me I killed my dad and everyone else just because I found a letter?! Are you going to imply I'm not really your nephew again, huh?! Go ahead, go right ahead, it's not like anyone cares about it here anyway!!
I refuse, I refuse - of course I'll refuse to be cornered by you anymore!! I wanted to believe that you were more than this, that you really were just my kind and gentle Aunt Rosa, but it's just me lying to myself, right?! Right?! And I'm not the only one who can see it!!
Don't talk to me anymore, don't even look in my direction or think about me!! Just leave me alone from now until you or I diiiiie!! LEAVE ME ALOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!!
done
Later, he'll regret this. Later, he might even stop to think about what she said...and what it meant for those games, for everything.
But for now, there's only the anger and pain and memories, and he wants to get away from it as fast as he physically can.]

[It's such a sudden reversal that instantly the script is flipped and she's the one feeling vulnerable and off-balance. She can do nothing but stare in horror as she listens to his tirade. More than half of it is incomprehensible to her ears. She just doesn't have those experiences or the context Battler has for what happened on Rokkenjima, but the emotion in Battler's tone is undeniable and the sheer loathing in his words is unmistakable...
...it hurts.]
...
[Then, he moves. Her eyes go wide. Partially because Battler is running toward her, which she already surmised he wouldn't dare do, and also because something so completely bizarre and magical is surrounding him as he does it.
Rosa, of course, isn't mystical. She's a flesh and blood person, and not even some 'piece' manipulated by the witch for her game, yet... but she's easily knocked aside, crashing to the floor and actually rolling a few feet from the force of the impact until she's prone on the ground. With the wind knocked out of her, bright lights flashing in her eyes, she wonders... just what the hell was that?? Not just the power, but also the outburst.
She'd have plenty of time to be tortured by it. The terrible content of his words... Battler wasn't going to help her. He didn't care if she died. If anything, he'd prefer it. And he'd find good company.]
...
[A solid ten minutes later would be how long it'd take before she actually tried to right herself, feeling more than a little dizzy. To say nothing for standing up.]
