RECORDING 4: THE SECOND WEEK

A second week in this place begins, with less of your number among you. With first blood - and oil - spilled, it now seems as if it'll only be a matter of time before the worse eventually happens once more. Thankfully, it seems as if the Miasma is content to remain at the same levels it did before, so arguments are unlikely to break out, though tensions are surely high after everything that's already occurred.

Speaking of which, the temperature remains a consistent comfortable early to mid 70's in the house. It appears at least that you'll be here in comfort..? Though it appears that the rooms have changed, so hopefully you kept anything essential in the static area.

Yet, something feels...wrong. The house feels as if it is laughing at you, when you awake...

...What new horrors await you this week?

Making art. You zeroes don't get it, or think it's pointless, or whatever, but it's the only thing that ever made me happy.

[his answer is simple, and he deals again. 6 diamonds and 9 clubs for Rin, and a Queen of Clubs for himself]

It's true that I could, but why would I do that when you're like that?

[she has some courtesy]

I wouldn't say that making art is necessarily pointless.

I will admit that it is pointless. . . in this particular situation. But that's different.

[he flips his card -- 9 of diamonds] 19 > 18. House win!

And I want a truth. [shuffling the cards while he thinks] .... Do you really think there's any chance this mission won't be a failure?

To put it in your terms: the probability is not zero. And as long as there's even a sliver of a chance, then yes, I'll believe that it won't be a failure.

We don't necessarily need to destroy the miasma, you know?

There's only one thing that needs to be done, and as long as that task is fulfilled, this mission won't be considered a failure, no matter how many lives are lost.

[tangentlion]

[he sneers a bit] Is that what you think? Well. Alright then.

[since we're shuffling every round the suit doesn't matter WOW FISH GOOD JOB so Rin gets 10 and 7 and Sho has 4]

[Sho takes a card and reveals his hand -- 9, 4, and 2] Rrrgh. 15 < 17. Your turn again.

Hmhm... maybe I'll do something a little meaner...

Tell me an embarrassing story about yourself.

Embarrassing... huh.... Oh. The way I died the first time. Did you know that the third rail on subway carries in excess of 600 volts of electricity? And it only takes 42 to kill a human, give or take some based on the current. I did know that. What I didn't know was that the sector of rail that I was trespassing on was less decommissioned than I thought it was. A fatal miscalculation.

[he looks at his hand, which comes to 16. He groans and leans back in the chair] UGH! I'm zetta done!

I don't know about that, but okay.

[laughs at his loss, though]

I have to ask - top five people you want to survive here?

[he shuffles the cards, just for fun this time, as he thinks]

Sissel. Giovanni. Yachi.

[he pauses, trying to think of two more]

.... Eh. The rest is an empty set.

Hmm.

Figures. Well, I suppose that makes sense.

[tangentlion]

... But hope is an empty set too. So it doesn't matter.

'Hope', huh...

I don't know about that. Many of us are stubborn, and I for one don't plan on disregarding that so-called hope. Or rather... it's not null yet.

Of course you think that. You don't see what I see.

[tsunderine]

No, I don't.

[brutally honest, but she doesn't say the words in a condescending manner. no, her voice is more... even?]
