thefoundation | RECORDING 4: THE SECOND WEEK

A second week in this place begins, with less of your number among you. With first blood - and oil - spilled, it now seems as if it'll only be a matter of time before the worse eventually happens once more. Thankfully, it seems as if the Miasma is content to remain at the same levels it did before, so arguments are unlikely to break out, though tensions are surely high after everything that's already occurred.

Speaking of which, the temperature remains a consistent comfortable early to mid 70's in the house. It appears at least that you'll be here in comfort..? Though it appears that the rooms have changed, so hopefully you kept anything essential in the static area.

Yet, something feels...wrong. The house feels as if it is laughing at you, when you awake...

...What new horrors await you this week?

[The toolbox does deserve attention. She's crouch down and get a better look. Is it clean or dusty? Locked?]

[ It's unlocked. When she opens it, she'll find there's a photo of a woman in a bathing suit from the very early 1920's.

There's hammers, wrenchs, pliers... just your regular old tools from the 1920's. They look as clean as used tools can be, but they are lacking in dust. ]

[...That photo deserves attention. She'll pocket that one.

The rest of the tools get set on the floor temporarily, just to make sure she doesn't miss anything important, including from turning over the toolbox to see the bottom. Is the toolbox even light enough for her to lift without much trouble?]

[ It is meant to be carried around, so it is light enough. It's a small, wooden toolbox.

There's nothing on the bottom. ]

[That settled that.

She definitely didn't want to touch any of the pipes or metal with her bare hands, but maybe poking around with the wrench wouldn't be too bad? She'll take that wrench with her and start idly poking at things. The walls included.]

[ It wouldn't be bad, but it also doesn't reveal anything new. The walls seem solid, and the pipes also seem normal.

Though she may notice they are wet around the connecting pieces. ]

[...Maybe that solves the mystery of why they only have hot water for five minutes.]

Any valves to turn or fiddle with?]

[ There are pressure valves to fiddle with, but they do take strength. ]

[She could possibly put all her strength into it, but she didn't know what she was doing, and she wasn't going to take the blame for fucking it up. She leaves them alone, then puts the tool box back together... as if she hadn't touched it.

Oh, better not forget to wipe the fingerprints off with her clothes. Glad she remembered that.

Once that's done, she'll go lean out the doorway.]

Hey! Does anyone know anything about boilers?

[ He absolutely hears that and hurries over!! ]

Oh, did we finally find the boiler room?

I found this... it was a powder room but, now...

[Yep, the boiler room.]

(Also is there anything that describes him better than a powder room that transforms into a boiler room, not really.) ]

[ It's wet in there, fam. There's dampness on the floor and walls. It's also wet where the pipes connect to the water heater. ]

[ Let's check out where the pipes connect -- water's leaking out from those connections? ]

[ That's where it seems to be wet so that's an affirmative. ]

[ So what kind of leaks do these look like? Just loose joints? Faulty seals? Pressure issues?

It looks like the fitting is loose there. Good thing there's a tool box in here. ]

[ YOU SAY THAT LIKE HE DIDN'T BRING A WHOLE TOOLBOX ON THIS MISSION WITH HIM but yes not having to go back to his room is definitely more convenient, so!

He'll get out a wrench and get to tightening that up, then!!

Unless this is a trap and he's about to get sprayed with boiling water or something, in which case his life sucks. ]

[ Suddenly a moose shows up- no. There is no trap here or anything popping up. He is free to tighten it up. ]

Anything else look in need of repairs if he pokes around? Any parts of the room that haven't been examined yet? ]

...Boilers are supposed to be wet and damp, right?

I mean, the house I grew up in had a big boiler room. It wasn't too far removed from this.

To an extent, but mostly just from steam escaping the pressure outlet, which should be relatively limited if the pressure settings are correct, and we'd only be seeing water around that particular pipe in that case. If the boiler you grew up with was like this, I'd say it probably wasn't getting proper maintenance.

...Sounds about right, really. I don't think anyone thought twice about it.

But I do know, aren't these supposed to be in the basement?

Typically, yes. Given that a completely different room was in this space last week, I think we can safely say that there's something odd about the placement of this house's rooms in general.

...Right, haunted house, of course.
