After everything, the house seems almost too still and too mundane. At least as long as the doors to that room remain closed. One by one those covered in what was once their teammate are lead to the showers or change in silence. There is no warm meal waiting for them. No words of encouragement.

Life goes on, regardless.

Unfortunately, my life isn't all too interesting. I'm an only-child of a father who was disappointed that I didn't end up as a doctor. I've worked for the government since I was out of high school. Taking records and organizing information is a task I'm particularly suited for, and I'm good at not sticking out in a crowd.

It's certainly a better life than I could have ended up with. Where I'm from, there was a war in the not-too-distant past. A lot of people my age were made orphans then, and they didn't have many options in life.
