This time, the wakeup is familiar - yet not any less nerve-wracking. Though you have survived the night, the knowledge that the Mafia - the monsters - have killed is ringing loudly in your mind.

The hotel speakers crackle to life just like before, drawing your attention and startling you. Heart racing, you listen to the announcement...

[ It'll be a while before she walks into the restaurant. She's cold from checking outside and in a pair of pajamas. She hasn't made it back to her room the sleepover yet and is thinking of getting something warm to drink when she sees him.

Walking over to Vanitas. She seems without the usual energy or brightness. ]

Hey... are you okay?

[enter_the_darkness]

[ He looks up, his expression an unreadable kind of calm. He nods. ]

Never better.

[ After that, however, he's shaking his head, shrugging a little. ]

He was too kind and gentle for a place like this. His dreams were bigger than his drive and he was too honest about his ability with the eyes. He saw himself as less than nothing - he would have easily died in the place of any of us.

[ ... an idiot, through and through, really. ]

That's why I'm only surprised he made it as far as he did.

[ But then... both of his hands are gripping his cup a little tightly. When he realizes it, he immediately loosens said grip. ]

[ At first, she seems to take his word for it. But then he keeps talking. And that's when it hits her that he's not really okay...

Eddie doesn't really talk this much.

She gingerly place a hand on his shoulder to give it a squeeze. Then she spots the way he's holding the cup.

Yeah let's just throw her arms around him to give him a hug. ]

I'm sad, too. He was really sweet. Very nice and deserves so much better than that...

[ He hadn't noticed he was talking as much as he was, honestly - there are times he talked a lot back home, but... heh. Those times were...

... Anyway.

The suddenly touch has him blinking out of thought, and then-- ]

...!?

[ Quietly, his breath catches, and he goes completely still. His eyes are a little widened as he slowly looks over to her. Sorry, there aren't any words, at first. Only a confused look. Finally, though, he gives a somewhat unstable laugh. ]

... I'm not sad.

[ Sadness is something he's pretty sure he became numb to years ago. ]

[ She's keeping her arms around him. ]

You're upset, Vani.

[ Using his name actually. ]

It's okay to be upset that he's gone. He's really really nice and didn't deserve that.

[ Any of that. ]

[ Wh-...

His body tenses just a bit, and then seems to become somewhat unsteady as he gives another laugh, looking away from her. ]

Don't you get it? I'm fine...

[ Totally fine, everything's okay here. ]

Alright...You're fine.

[ She has DOUBT which is why she'll keep her arms around him though. ]

Let Cinquey hug you for Cinquey then.

[ Vanitas can tell she doesn't believe him - the continued hold doesn't do much to prove otherwise. ]

[ There's no response to that, but he still isn't pushing her away. He's tense for a long while, but... he actually relaxes the tiniest bit, try as he might... not to. ]

[ She really does want a hug anyways. But yeah, she doesn't believe him. She's bad at keeping things from being obvious. ]
