RECORDING 2: THE FIRST WEEK

It's been two days since the doors locked....and only a day since the living room became completely impassable, with something lurking inside of it. Not only that, but due to the actions of those who went to investigate the strange event, Miasma now faintly lingers in the hallways - akin to the tiny clouds that were around camp, floating around aimlessly and clinging to whatever it can. Due to this, everyone is always in contact with it, in one way or another...and the start of curse is now inside nearly all of the Agents, save those lucky few able to either resist or somehow nullify it.

Though the effects are small, they still linger. Unease and negative emotions come quicker, and little fights here and there are much more likely to break out in the course of everyday life in this house.

Speaking of which, the temperature remains a consistent comfortable early to mid 70's in the house. It appears at least that you'll be here in comfort..? And look, you even have more space to use! Everything else seems to work as well, at least for now.

It might be in your best interests to wait, and try and find a way out later.

...Or maybe, that'll just invite disaster...?

Either way - for now...there's no escape.

[He nods to Hikage, and he listens to the others before speaking up.]

Ango Sakaguchi. Like Dazai-kun, I'm not the author you might know. I work for the Special Abilities Operations Division branch of the Japanese government. We oversee Ability-users within Japan and make sure they're not causing trouble.

My own ability, 'Discourse on Decadence', allows me to read information off of paper and recall it perfectly later. I can also get some basic information from people and objects by touching them: name, age, size, other statistics like that.

[He hesitates for a moment before he adds on one last bit:]

When I touch objects while using that same ability, I can see their 'past' with the same 'perfect recall' I mentioned before. Touching the front door on arrival here showed me several brutal murders that happened in the entryway.

[ Hikage has been listening and scribbling notes as everyone's introduced themselves, but Ango in particular catches his attention. ]

Does your ability work on people?

It works differently on living subjects compared to objects. Like I said: stats, basic information, things like that.

[Ango is lying. He can absolutely see people's memories. Canon verified this like three months ago and everyone was like what the fuck.]

It's information-based.

[ Thanks meta text for being a bro. Hikage nods at that, a notable pause before he speaks again. ]

If you're willing to indulge my curiosity later, I have a request.

Of course. I'll be taking an inventory of our items on hand, so you will likely find me in the kitchen or by our pile of equipment.

I'll talk to you later then, Sakaguchi.

[Battler is feeling like crap - but all of this catches his interest, but also-]

....The Non-serial Murder Incident....

[Because. Well. The Irl Ango did actually write a satirical murder mystery that Battler literally brings up in umineko canon, so of course that would catch his interest.

Still, he basically mumbles it.]

Pardon?

[Battler you nerd. But it's surprising to hear about people knowing Ango's work, normally they know Dazai's.]

Ah - You guys aren't the authors from...my world [THIS IS THE WORST THING TO SAY and he feels like he almost broke something he shouldn't], but 'The Non-Serial Murder Incident' is a book the Sakaguchi Ango in my world wrote.

It's an ironic murder mystery that made him win the Murder Mystery Writers of Japan award for 1948. ...I've read it - it's actually pretty good, though he's way more known for Discourse on Decadence.

...this other version of me won an award for his writing?

[Wow, that. Huh. It's very unexpected, but it makes him feel a sense of pride somehow?]

What about your world's version of Dazai-kun, did he win any awards?
boardreversal: (hahaha....calm down...)

[personal profile] boardreversal 2020-04-15 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
[And. Here Battler freezes up for a second, because, UH.

Irl Dazai's life was. Sure fucking something.]

.....N-Not while he was alive? His writing is super well known, though - he's considered one of Japan's greatest writers, and there was an award named after him - though I think it got discontinued a few years back.

[It got discontinued in 1978, and he's from 1986, soooo.]

[It sure fucking was.]

...

Maybe don't mention that part to Dazai-kun.

I didn't plan on it, Sakaguchi-san.

Indeed. Though I've only been able to see it in parts, I haven't been able to get full measurements yet.

[Or escape routes.]
