Week 1: Slumber Party Mingle

[ After getting permission on the staff, they take over the lounge. Futons, blankets, sleeping bags, and pillows are all dragged out into the middle of the room. Time to build a fort, guys!

Or come to the Lounge to find it made and everyone chilling out. There's hot chocolate and snacks! ]

[He was mostly just passing by but. This sure seems to be a thing, so he finds himself settled on the couch with a mug of hot chocolate. If anyone approaches, he speaks up:]

Haha... I'm a little more used to relaxing in the hot springs, but this isn't bad either.

This isn't really the kind of mood you want at a hot springs episode...

[A depressing hot spring episode is fun for no one.]

[He smiles sheepishly before his expression reverts to something more sober.]

Well... that isn't exactly what I meant. I just always found the hot springs a good place to sort out my thoughts, especially at night.

Hmm... sorting out your thoughts like that... It sounds plain relaxing.

[If dangerous in their current situation.]

Yeah. It's also a good time to just... try and figure some things out. Like where we're going to go from here.

[...]

Yeah....

[Tsumugi trails off. Is there anything she can say? She's not sure where she's going with her own life right now, how can she be expected to contribute to where the group is going.]

[It's pretty obvious with the way she trails off that there's something else to it, so he gives her a sympathetic smile in response.]

Something on your mind? It might not be much, but I can lend an ear if you need it.

Just... thinking about what I'd do after this.

[The thought of a future... it's strange.]

It's umm... not something I expected to have to do before this place.

[...]

Did... something happen to you back home?

... Yeah.

[A lot did, all by her own fault. She’d be hesitant about even sharing this much with anyone, but sometimes it’s easier to talk to an 3rd party.]

It’s not something I can change... but it’s not something I wanted to plain move on from either, you know? The thing I built so much of my life around and said I would gave my life for... gone in an flash once the audience suddenly stopped wanting it.

[There is an empty look in Tsumugi’s eyes as she talks. It only seems to fade... or get hidden again once she stops talking. That is about as many details as she’ll elaborate on. It’s still a raw wound to some extent.]

[Well, he won't press. It's pretty clear from her demeanor that she doesn't want to continue talking about this and it's not like he has a desire to snoop into her past so.]

I see... I can't say I understand your feelings entirely, but I get what it's like to feel lost after losing something so important to you.

You... do?

[The tone of Tsumugi's voice is interested. She might as well have said 'Do go on.' ]

Yeah. I don't think it compares to your situation, but... well, about 8 months ago, I enrolled at a place called Thors Military Academy. My classmates and I had a bit of a rough time getting along at first, but we ended up going through a lot together: it was where we belonged, despite our different backgrounds and cultures.

[He sighs as his gaze goes distant.]

Long story short, it didn't last: we were betrayed by one of the friends we trusted. I could only watch as the academy was taken over and the rest of my friends were left to his mercy.

And for a while after that, I didn't know what to do anymore. Any direction I had in my life was just... gone, and I started doubting myself, my decisions... everything. So... I do think I get what you're going through, even if it's just a little bit.

The what?

[ It was less approaching and more that he was already sitting on the couch that guy picked, thanks to the fact that Vanitas isn't doing much getting up. Either way, he doesn't know what the heck hot springs even are. ]

[Huh. Even if most people haven't necessarily used them before, he would've assumed hot springs to be common knowledge to most people.]

Hot springs. They're heated pools of water that well up from the ground, and you can think of them as the natural version of the hot tub we have here. But basically, it's a place to socialize and relax after a long day.

[ There's a soft frown. ]

I don't get why people would want to hang out in a bath together...

Hmm... well, I can't give any one single reason, but I think it's just a nice way to enjoy each other's company. The hot water alone is enough to make you relax, which makes conversations come a little easier.

[ He's quiet for a moment. ]

Sounds a little boring, to me...

[ But then he's never... so much as touched the hot tub here. He has no idea what he's missing out on. ]

There's a saying that you shouldn't knock it till you've tried it. It's not like time is at a premium here, so why not give it a shot sometime with someone you want to get closer to?

[ HAVE YOU MET HIM!!!

That last part gets something of a... blank look for a moment. It's something between being as though this guy just momentarily spoke in another language... and just something he just finds too ridiculous. ]

I think I'll pass.

[you say this like murdergames aren't about friendshipping the shit out of antisocial jerks!!

Anyways, he does catch Vanitas' look when he said that and he gives a sheepish laugh.]

Alright, maybe that was a bit much. I still say you should give it a try, though. It doesn't even have to be with anyone, really; just going for the experience is enough.

[ Listen........................ that's entirely fair. ]

... Maybe.

[ Basically, he'll do it when nobody else is around. ]

You spend a lot of time at those things, then?

[Success...?? Not like it's really any skin off his back if Vanitas does or doesn't go, but ]

Yeah, when I was living back at home. I grew up in a town that's fairly well-known for their hot springs, so it became sort of a family thing to do.

[ There's an almost blank look on his face at the mention of family. It doesn't last very long. He looks away, falling quiet for a moment. ]

I'd never even heard of those. Maybe it's a thing that's unique to the world you're from.

[ Yeah, just avoiding the family talk like it's some kind of disease here. ]

[Another odd moment with Vanitas, huh...]

It's possible, but the fact that they have a hot tub here means the concept's been carried over, at least.
