Six weeks.

They had been here for that long, and still...the game was continuing.
Yet, it felt like they were finally about to reach the end of it...
Just a little longer. 🗈

Still, things were just the same as they had been the past few weeks.

The goats and servants were still around, and so too were the witches.
Yet, it felt like this week would be the week they would finally get all the pieces to the puzzle.
But...could they solve it?

Only time would tell.

I do not know if I. . . enjoy it, exactly.

[ He finds Takumi interesting, but that isn't the same as enjoying it, he thinks of it, anyway. ]

We do not seem to fight, at least.

Well, you don't wish him any harm, do you? Even if he's your mistress's enemy?

[The demons don't seem malicious, really. Some of them are cold, but not outright dangerous.

No.

There is not a single piece here that I wish harm upon. However, if she wishes for me to harm him, or any other person here, then I have no choice.

Even then you're a better person than a lot of us here. There's been too much death already.

[He sighs again.]

But yes, the fact that you wouldn't choose to add to the number of your own will says a lot about you.

. . . There simply isn't any neccesity to it. Killing should only be done if it is necessary. [ Those are basically his thoughts on it, anyway. He doesn't have the same issues that Syaoran did, after all, so he has a more objective point of view here. ]

Is any of what's happened necessary, if this was just supposed to be a game?

If those two deemed that this game was necessary, then that is the choice that they made.

[ He just simply shrugs. ]

And it's a choice the rest of us have to live with. Or die by.

They shouldn't have the right to dictate our lives or how they end. We're not their property.

[Erhard doesn't sound bitter or angry, just that same tired tone he's had for a while.]

... [ He doesn't say anything, just simply staring at Erhard with curiosity. ]

[God, that stare is unnerving. Then again, people have said the same thing about him, so... yeah.]

I am curious as to... why. Why you think that way.

Why I think they don't have the right to make us play their game?

Because having greater power than someone else doesn't mean you have the right to hurt them for your own amusement. If you're stronger, you should protect, not harm.

[excavated]

I see. [ Does he really? ] I think I understand now.

[cryosurgeon]

... everyone makes mistakes, even if that mistake is killing someone. But when there's no remorse, there can't be any hope for change. That's what we wanted to see in Nirrti: remorse, and change.

Do you truly believe that she can change?

[ For the better, he implies but does not say aloud. ]

I'd like to think anyone can change, if they can be forgiven for their mistakes.

.... I see. That is a nice way of thinking.

It's harder than it sounds, though. When someone makes a mistake that personally impacts others, it's often difficult for those others to let go of their pain long enough to forgive.

[He stares out across the library.]

... I couldn't forgive Anon for killing Sherlock. I wouldn't take back executing him, though... I'm ashamed of how brutal I was in doing it. I was blinded by hatred, but I guess that's the nature of humanity. We're deeply flawed, but we're capable of good things along with the bad.

... love can make people do good things, but... also terrible things.

[Yes, he might've just admitted to someone what he's been wondering about since the Week of Dokis.]

Is that so?

I wouldn't understand what love is like.

[cryosurgeon]

Sometimes, I wish things were the way they used to be, before I knew.

[He sighs heavily, scrubbing his face with both hands.]

Feeling everything so intensely is exhausting.

That is not necessarily a bad thing, though. But if it is tiring... perhaps you shouldn't push yourself too hard.
