This time, it affected so many people...and yet, they still weren't done.
Who would be killed next?
Would they be able...to handle whatever happened?🗈

Still, things were just the same as they had been the past few weeks.

The goats and servants were still around, and so too were the witches.
It was all becoming routine at this point.
Was that a good thing, or a bad one...?
It was...too hard to tell, now...

...Either way, they were now closer to the end.
So, like always...they had to see it through.

The Actual Vision

Well, it did seem nicer...

So, Watanuki was playing...uh...what are those classical Japanese guitars called? Not important. He was playing it and I was dancing and I slipped into another place right about...here.

[Joey retraces her steps from the day before as a visual aid.]

It was some kind of Japanese house, and Watanuki was there, and he told me an expected guest of his had arrived. At first I thought it was the past, because it seemed like he was running a business? And his guest looked a lot like Yuuko, so I was confused.

But they had a talk, and Watanuki knew her name, which was uh...[].

Yeah, I couldn't hear it. Like it was redacted.

Anyway, she was surprised at this, which is how I definitely knew it wasn't Yuuko, and Watanuki said to me...

[She closes her eyes and concentrates on the memory.]

"Though it has been a long, long time since then, so I can understand your confusion. Yuuko, Nirrti, [], they're all names that have been used before."

And then she said that misfortune had been following her everywhere, like she'd been cursed with bad luck. And Watanuki said it was "a power that you haven't yet had much experience with." They started talking about it, and I was back here.

[She relaxes from her public retelling.]

I think that was a future where Nirrti got reincarnated, or lost her memory of all this, or something. Which seemed like a win, after seeing what she could be remembering?

...Is that really a win, though...?

[The person that died, got "reincarnated" as a robot, and lost most of the memories of her past life before getting them back has opinions on this, yes.]

It might be a win. Watanuki was alive, some form of Nirrti was alive, and we weren't on this god damn island, as far as I know.

While that's true, I'd rather that Nirrti deal with her issues in this life, rather than the next.

[She takes this moment to dramatically toss a certain metal charm into the middle of the ballroom before continuing. Written on it is the word Soul]

Even if the body forgets, the soul remembers. The sooner she faces it, the sooner she faces it, the better for everyone, including herself.

[That's right. Watanuki had said the same to her. She's silent for a moment in recognition of the implications.]

Well, hopefully my dream was about Watanuki helping her work it out on her own time. I didn't get to hear their conversation, though. Maybe she did work it out in that future, and it's just her power sticking around. Watanuki did say that 'Misfortune' didn't really cover it, and that he'd help her.

Anyway, I think this indicates it's possible to get out of here with the "Nirrti forfeits" plan. Not that it's what's gonna happen. I mean, if these visions were all going to come true exactly, it'd be really convoluted.

That's true, this only indicates a possibility... Still, it's not a possibility I can be satisfied with.

I'm going to tell Nirrti everything I know about the book tonight. If anyone else wants to tell her, you should probably do it before it gets too late.

...is that really a good idea? If she doesn't know we know can't we like...save it?

Or, well, if that derails things, maybe no one will die tonight...

I doubt it'll stop anyone from dying. Still, we only have six days left before it's too late. We might be able to pull off a miracle, but in the worst case, we're going to end up too late and unable to do anything.

That's just going to end up hurting both sides of Nirrti more. It might be a riskier option, but if saving the other one is impossible, then we need to at least allow her a chance to confront herself and come to a conclusion, one way or another.

Does that mean you're going to bring the book to her? If she's going to experience the whole thing the way we did, I don't know what that's going to do.

You might be better off just telling her verbally, first.

I never said I was going to bring the book to her, just tell her everything I know about it. It's pointless if she doesn't choose to confront herself of her own will, after all.

... I agree. Facing your past can hurt, but it can also be cathartic.

She's been trying to get Watanuki to accept witchhood, but maybe what she needs is to accept her humanity.

...hey Vinea, you know Nirrti better than we do, it seems like. Do you have any thoughts on this plan?

[Technically, Vinea is on the Witch of Misfortune's "side", but it's not like that's ever stopped her trying to be helpful before.]

I can't be entirely sure. I don't know what everything you all know entails, and even to demons, Witches can be hard to predict.

But it seems to me like she has a lot that she's been holding inside. Perhaps she needs encouragement for it to come out.

Yeah. It's going to be rough, I think. I don't know. I've never been a witch. Never been close to a witch, even, just kinda scared and lonely. It does seem like it's probably going to be a fight, though, just based on how she's reacted to other stuff.

I might still do it, if only because sometimes people need anger to get them to do something, but it's probably best if she hears it from you, first.

I don't know if that's a good idea yet. She didn't react well when I tried bringing up who she was before... I don't know if she's ready to face that pain.

Even if she's not ready, the truth is that we're running out of time. We have until Wednesday. Do you think she'll be ready to face it by then? Do you think she'll ever be ready to face it? The fact is, if we wait beyond that point, it's only going to get worse.

I don't want to just force it, you know? Maybe ask her if she remembers who she is and see how she reacts to that? Also don't touch her if she's on fire... it won't burn you, but it hurts like it does.
