WEEK 5 MINGLE - AMARANTHUS

Another trial, another horrible outcome.

This time, it affected so many people...and yet, they still weren't done.
Who would be killed next?
Would they be able...to handle whatever happened?🗈

Still, things were just the same as they had been the past few weeks.

The goats and servants were still around, and so too were the witches.
It was all becoming routine at this point.
Was that a good thing, or a bad one...?
It was...too hard to tell, now...

...Either way, they were now closer to the end.
So, like always...they had to see it through.

Oh. Colorful how?

[He is not sure which sense of colorful they're talking here??

But man. Multiple Underworlds might not be a thing he's really thought about before.]

I think it might be interesting to learn more about them -- especially with Nirrti and the whole Hindu thing. I've tried reading about it, but I think it's probably more interesting to hear it.

It just has a very varied cast of gods and goddesses. Let's see...the one about Ereshkigal is interesting.

The gods above-ground were holding a banquet, but Ereshkigal, the goddess of the dead, couldn't leave the Underworld to attend it. So she sent Namtar, her assistant, in her place. The plague god, Nergal, disrespected him, and Ereshkigal was so mad she demanded that Nergal come down to the Underworld to be punished for it.

There's two different ways the story goes from there on. One of them is sort of funny, actually.

Ooh, so that's where Namtar comes from. He was a party crasher all along.

[Sure, why not drag crime grandpa while they're here.]

And that's why there were all those sickness bells, too, huh... I want to hear the funny one first.

Alright. In the second version of the story, Nergal agrees to go to the Underworld, but is advised by the god Enki to not eat or drink anything, sit down on anything, or take any baths while he's there...he's also warned not to sleep with Ereshkigal. Nergal does all of those things, but a pretty girl is a pretty girl, I guess, goddess or not, so he does sleep with her.

[ a beat ]

After a week, he leaves with no warning, which makes her very angry. Ereshkigal sends Namtar to bring Nergal back, but Enki helps Nergal disguise himself, and Namtar has to go back with nothing. Nergal agrees to come back, but he steals her throne. They decide to resolve the conflict by getting married.

[ ...the end.

gods are ridiculous. ]

Wow, Ereshkigal has really bad taste if she's sleeping with guys who don't take a bath for a week and starve themselves while they're around her. But I guess if she wants to get married to that, that's totally her funeral!

[Sure, he'll drag random gods too. Anon's kind of snickering through the whole thing because yeah, gods are ridiculous. But to be fair, all the gods he knows of are also ridiculous so that tracks.]

I almost want to ignore the less funny version of the story now, though.

A lot of myths are like that. To not take any food or rest while in a different realm, so you don't get trapped in there...that has roots in Celtic and Greek mythology, too.

[ ...... ]

But yes, it is a bit gross, isn't it? [ eresh why

guda was a massive fucking upgrade for you ]

Mmhm, they're supposed to be just stories and all symbolic and stuff, but then you've got all the demons here running around messing with the living and eating food and all. So it just sounds like the stories are at least a little bit real. I'm kind of glad our demons eat and take baths, though.

[Nirrti is still a Hindu goddess, after all, even if the Witch herself might not be.]

So, what was the other version of the story?

[Because he's still here for that, apparently.]
