WEEK 1 TRIAL

It was noon on Saturday.

No matter where they were, no matter what they were doing...the moment the chimes rang out through the hall, they felt a change.

The world...began to expand, as they felt themselves leaving the world they were on, and towards another, much larger world...🗈

This new world looked like...the inside of an ornate courtroom, like something that wouldn't be too far from some kind of grand fantasy novel. The audience was full of people with Goat Heads...like some kind of bizzare trial proceedings.

The Witch - Yuuko - was there, sitting in the most important place, smiling in her mysterious way at everyone. There was no music to be heard, but... perhaps on another plane, in another place, someone else heard music as they gazed upon the proceedings.

As they looked around, they might have also been surprised to see that their forms had changed - perhaps only slightly, or a much more dramatic change. It seemed like this place demanded a different form in some way, even if it was just a change of clothing.

...There was a deep silence in the room, one that no one wanted to break. It was the faint tension in the air, like the moments before a race or a competition begins.

Yesterday had been the start of the game. But now, armed with all they knew...now, they had to truly go up against the Witch, and somehow.....win.

Right?

Okay. So. Before we narrow this down to a culprit, I guess I'll get started...

Yuuko, you said you hid in the bathroom to ambush Erika, right? You don't need magic to do that. A human could have easily hid in Erika's bathroom to ambush her. For that matter, all that teleportation wasn't necessary either. The killer could have attacked her with the bug spray cloth and stabbed her without any of that witchy stuff.

Ah, but you're talking in hypotheticals.

[The blue wavers a bit, no matter what form it takes from Joey.]

I am not asking you to merely say 'the killer could have hidden' or 'the killer could have attacked her.' Like that, you're not properly aiming at me. You have to refute that I could do it in more direct terms.

So if it's something anyone could have done, we have to prove someone else did it?

[She frowns at that.]

Well I can't just say "you can't teleport people 50000 feet in the air" or whatever because you clearly can teleport people, or at least reasonably make it look like you can. This would have been a lot easier before I found that stupid Portal.

Hm? It sounds like you're getting frustrated. If you can't figure out another reason, then merely accept I was the one who killed Erika-chan.

[She grins.]

But, you're correct. You will have to prove one of your number did it, and name them in front of everyone using the Blue.

It's not just this. Magic is fun to think about and all, but it's actually terrible in real life, you know? It means you can't ever know for sure what's going to happen or why, because maybe there's some wizard out there just messing with you with magic spells you don't understand. The stuff the Foundation deals with is the same as magic, as far as I'm concerned, otherwise I'd be complaining about how it's not real.
lutea: (all the sarcasm you can muster)

[For a moment, her smile drops.]

....Perhaps that is the reason magic itself exists. In order to give those with no control over their lives a semblance of control.

It is much easier to blame something than yourself, especially if you feel powerless or jealous.

"The reason that person has everything is not because they worked hard for it, but because luck decided to favor them." or "The reason that person became someone important is because they made a deal with the devil."

....

[Then, she smiles again.]

Still, that has nothing to do with this.

Some people are like that. I'd rather understand actual reasons for things, so if there's a problem I can solve it.

[She sighs.]

I guess that could be why I'm here. Or it's a coincidence, but I'm gonna use it to make myself feel better anyway.
lutea: (the streams of red tears.)

[personal profile] lutea 2019-03-30 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
...I am sure you were chosen by my opponent for that exact reason.
literalidiotball: (Ah... One problem)

[personal profile] literalidiotball 2019-03-30 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, this is getting a bit tedious.

[Hi, he's butting in.]

How about, we take what she said, and pretend that's how it actually happened? You know, like how you play Cluedo? Saying things like "It was so-and-so in the place with the thing."

Would that make you happy?
oceanicbutterfly: ([a] No problem)

[approving nod]

Either way, it's an asset. Here, especially.

[There's a rare quiet moment from the Predatory Pompom as he listens to this!

Afterwards, there's something like a dry laugh rustling from the skeleton head, but that might just be the change in his voice from turning into a demon blob.]
