WEEK 1 MINGLE - KALMIA
All of the guests awoke in their rooms, just like they had before.
Yesterday had been a day of surprises.
First, they'd finally met the person who had brought them here - the Witch of Dimensions, Yuuko.
Secondly, they'd learned they were going to be playing a horrible game.
And most important, they learned that wishes could be granted if they won this game.🗈

Still, for now, it seemed like there wasn't much to do. Was the Witch already in talks with the 'Murderer'? Was the 'victim' already decided upon?
There was no way to know until some day later this week, apparently.
Still, it wasn't all bad. The island was beautiful and the climate just perfect for beachgoing, or taking a cosy walk in the garden. There were also board and card games which would be produced upon request - and the tv in the Sitting Room - to help ease the boredom of it all.
Though, perhaps the guests would prefer to get to know each other instead? On maybe get into some trouble as they roamed the island.
Despite being told someone will die, it...felt remarkably peaceful. Could one of their own really be able to kill someone?
...Or, maybe...this is just the silence that comes just before a massive storm breaks, and sweeps away everything...

cw for hiroshima discussion...?
A little later in the day, she can be found in the library, paging through a stack of books of WWII and postwar Japanese history.
At one point, turning the page to a photo of the mushroom cloud over Hiroshima, she stops, and traces her finger along the border of the picture with an almost wistful expression. ]

You're from a world that had that?
no subject
[ It's actually not a simple yes or no question. ]
Yes, but my world was different from all of these. In mine, when this bomb dropped, it didn't detonate. There was just a single baby left at the impact site.
no subject
[Well then.]
I wonder, did the aftermath stay the same?
no subject
No, we didn't see that kind of devastation.
[ I mean, they had some serious beast attacks and stuff, but. ]
Since the bomb was considered a failure, research into nuclear power mostly came to a stop, and we stayed reliant on fossil fuels.
no subject
[It really was interesting how much one thing could change everything. Even if it lead to too many questions in the end.]
no subject
There's research into alternative fuels, yes.
no subject
[handwaving.]

History. Even though a lot of us are from Japan, my version diverged pretty significantly from most others. I wanted to learn more about what changed.
no subject
I never would've considered doing that.
[of course now she has to peak at what she's reading]
So you're going back pretty far, huh?
no subject
[ Her usual '60s style isn't actually her being fashionably retro. ]
no subject
And given what you said earlier... that must have been a significant change, huh...?
[she learned about this in school. it's... not exactly a nice period in history to learn about. Makoto would probably be able to talk about it more, but Ann is nothing if not curious]
no subject
Compared to these other timelines, the proliferation of superhumans and beasts seems to have been unique to us. We also ended up with a much worse energy crisis due to our abandoning nuclear research.
no subject
Honestly, I haven't really thought about it since we learned it. But it seems to me it would've been better to have never went off. A lot of innocent people died.

[ She touches the photo again as she says that name. ]
There are just always interconnections and layers. Something that's good for someone can hurt someone else, and something that's good for everyone in one sense can still come with negative consequences.
