WEEK 1 MINGLE - KALMIA

All of the guests awoke in their rooms, just like they had before.

Yesterday had been a day of surprises.
First, they'd finally met the person who had brought them here - the Witch of Dimensions, Yuuko.
Secondly, they'd learned they were going to be playing a horrible game.
And most important, they learned that wishes could be granted if they won this game.🗈

Still, for now, it seemed like there wasn't much to do. Was the Witch already in talks with the 'Murderer'? Was the 'victim' already decided upon?

There was no way to know until some day later this week, apparently.

Still, it wasn't all bad. The island was beautiful and the climate just perfect for beachgoing, or taking a cosy walk in the garden. There were also board and card games which would be produced upon request - and the tv in the Sitting Room - to help ease the boredom of it all.

Though, perhaps the guests would prefer to get to know each other instead? On maybe get into some trouble as they roamed the island.

Despite being told someone will die, it...felt remarkably peaceful. Could one of their own really be able to kill someone?

...Or, maybe...this is just the silence that comes just before a massive storm breaks, and sweeps away everything...

[ Early in the morning, Emi is out for a walk while the air is still cool, enjoying a cigarette a respectable distance from the mansion because Times Have Changed. She eventually pauses outside the chapel, curiously studying the statue display outside.

A little later in the day, she can be found in the library, paging through a stack of books of WWII and postwar Japanese history.

At one point, turning the page to a photo of the mushroom cloud over Hiroshima, she stops, and traces her finger along the border of the picture with an almost wistful expression. ]

[Kagami basically lived in the library, or in the books. She does occasionally peer up other her one. It's... A mixture, she doesn't seem to pick any particular topic to read about.]

You're from a world that had that?
youkaiwatch: (well not good care but yeah)

[personal profile] youkaiwatch 2019-03-31 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Mm...

[ It's actually not a simple yes or no question. ]

Yes, but my world was different from all of these. In mine, when this bomb dropped, it didn't detonate. There was just a single baby left at the impact site.
kagamiimagak: (Questioning Thoughts)

[personal profile] kagamiimagak 2019-03-31 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
A baby?

[Well then.]

I wonder, did the aftermath stay the same?
youkaiwatch: (don't tap on the glass)

[personal profile] youkaiwatch 2019-03-31 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ and the love of her life ]

No, we didn't see that kind of devastation.

[ I mean, they had some serious beast attacks and stuff, but. ]

Since the bomb was considered a failure, research into nuclear power mostly came to a stop, and we stayed reliant on fossil fuels.
kagamiimagak: (And Now Some Rest)

[personal profile] kagamiimagak 2019-03-31 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I see. I wonder if that means they found another alternative. They'll be in trouble if they haven't.

[It really was interesting how much one thing could change everything. Even if it lead to too many questions in the end.]
youkaiwatch: (it's cliche for a reason)

[personal profile] youkaiwatch 2019-03-31 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ... ]

There's research into alternative fuels, yes.

Interesting. Most places I've visited rely on ether or mana, or whatever they want to call magic.

[handwaving.]

Hi, Emi. [a beat] What are you reading...?
youkaiwatch: (havent you ever seen those documentaries)

[personal profile] youkaiwatch 2019-03-31 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She looks up and smiles. ]

History. Even though a lot of us are from Japan, my version diverged pretty significantly from most others. I wanted to learn more about what changed.

Ohhh.

I never would've considered doing that.

[of course now she has to peak at what she's reading]

So you're going back pretty far, huh?
youkaiwatch: (cool.)

[personal profile] youkaiwatch 2019-03-31 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, not really for me. This was a little after I was born.

[ Her usual '60s style isn't actually her being fashionably retro. ]

Oh that explains your clothes.

And given what you said earlier... that must have been a significant change, huh...?

[she learned about this in school. it's... not exactly a nice period in history to learn about. Makoto would probably be able to talk about it more, but Ann is nothing if not curious]
youkaiwatch: (i'm inside your house)

[personal profile] youkaiwatch 2019-04-01 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
In my world, this bomb never successfully detonated. Most nuclear development was halted because it was believed to have been a failure.

Compared to these other timelines, the proliferation of superhumans and beasts seems to have been unique to us. We also ended up with a much worse energy crisis due to our abandoning nuclear research.

Maybe that was better, though. [she admits, carefully.]

Honestly, I haven't really thought about it since we learned it. But it seems to me it would've been better to have never went off. A lot of innocent people died.
youkaiwatch: (we have these cute little buckles)

[personal profile] youkaiwatch 2019-04-01 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
I don't disagree with that. And speaking selfishly, if it had gone off like it was supposed to, I never would have had Jiro in my life.

[ She touches the photo again as she says that name. ]

There are just always interconnections and layers. Something that's good for someone can hurt someone else, and something that's good for everyone in one sense can still come with negative consequences.
