WEEK 1 MINGLE - KALMIA

All of the guests awoke in their rooms, just like they had before.

Yesterday had been a day of surprises.
First, they'd finally met the person who had brought them here - the Witch of Dimensions, Yuuko.
Secondly, they'd learned they were going to be playing a horrible game.
And most important, they learned that wishes could be granted if they won this game.🗈

Still, for now, it seemed like there wasn't much to do. Was the Witch already in talks with the 'Murderer'? Was the 'victim' already decided upon?

There was no way to know until some day later this week, apparently.

Still, it wasn't all bad. The island was beautiful and the climate just perfect for beachgoing, or taking a cosy walk in the garden. There were also board and card games which would be produced upon request - and the tv in the Sitting Room - to help ease the boredom of it all.

Though, perhaps the guests would prefer to get to know each other instead? On maybe get into some trouble as they roamed the island.

Despite being told someone will die, it...felt remarkably peaceful. Could one of their own really be able to kill someone?

...Or, maybe...this is just the silence that comes just before a massive storm breaks, and sweeps away everything...

Certainly, Miss Matou.

[He had come in to do another session of transcribing books, and is probably the one who left a big, chaotic stack of books on one of the desks. He reaches up, handing the book down, while scanning the same shelves for anything that catches his eye]

Did anything else catch your attention here?

Thank you. I was looking for any horror novels I could recognize, actually. I like Poe quite a bit, so I thought I would see if I could find his works.

[ except in this universe, his name is Edwin Alvin Potter ]

His horror works are certainly great at building atmosphere, his forays into detective fiction does leave much to be desired, but very few authors can master multiple genres.

[Idly, now the subject came up - he looks for a familiar name, or one with a similar cadence, noticing a 'The Complete Works of Kit Marlowe', suddenly laughing. He knows someone would certainly be put out by that attribution]
respring: (pat pat ₎ awkward)

You really like mystery fiction, then?

[ hmmm. ]

"Kit Marlowe"....that sounds familiar. [ She thinks for a moment. ] Oh! He wrote Doctor Faustus, didn't he?

I suppose you could say that, and you're right - he wrote one of the first English versions of the legend.

And a candidate for the fringe 'William Shakespeare didn't write his plays' theory... which seems to be true here.

[And he could picture that obnoxious playwright fuming at the idea]
respring: (hmmm? ₎ what's up?)

[ isn't it sad, shakes? ]

Mmm, that's true, the story itself has been around for a lot longer than one playwright, hasn't it? Making a deal with a devil.

[ There's a distant look in her eye, just for a second. Someone who wanted immortality that badly, a magus willing to sacrifice his humanity to get closer to it, it reminds her of Zouken a little.

But he's gone. And he's not coming back. Sakura's eyes come back into focus again. ]

Do people really think that? I suppose since it was so long ago, not many people would know.

It's a fringe theory, was more popular in the Victorian and Edwardian era, but generally only crackpots genuinely believe in it.

[He catches the distant look, Sakura doesn't always show it, but there's little tells like this, the quietness, the eyes going unfocused that told him stories that she had suffered greatly]

Djinns - there is always cautionary tales about not overextending your reach.
