We don't know the how, the when, or the why. Preventing a possession is completely unlikely. So is predicting who it will be. Locking everyone down is also just asking for a group to be stuck with that person and whether they survive that person's possession or not is wholly based on whether they're combat capable or not.

I'm having a very difficult time thinking we can prevent anything with this amount of unknowns and variables.
